What does that have to do with winning an ALCS and NLCS??

Because no one gives a **** about winning the LCS if you lose the WS.

Thanks for reminding everyone that the 'stros were forced to switch leagues.

That's simply not true. Winning a pennant has been a source of pride for baseball teams since the World Series has existed.

It's a big accomplishment. Sorry that makes you so bitter.

My team won the WS last year. Why would I be bitter? Go ask Indians fans if they're thumping their chests over their AL pennant last year.

Wow a Cubs fan talking about how it's not a big deal to win the LCS. I mean you've only won 1 league championship in your lifetime and all of a sudden it's not a big deal to you? This is why people don't like Cub fans

It's great to win the pennant but winning the WS is the only thing that matters.

While the Astros were winning the pennant, there were numerous postings of Kate and her big cans. So in fact we are all winners.

Maybe I need to go check out the Astros thread.

Some of the good stuff has probably since been deleted and bans issued.....

Gotta agree with Junkhead on this one.

The historical significance of winning the pennant was due to how hard it was to do before 1995 and the wildcard. Hell, before 1969, you had to have the best record in the league to make it to the World Series.

In the wildcard era a team barely over 0.500 can get hot and win the pennant.

Sure, but not modern baseball. It's merely a nod to history at this point.

Also, a team can dominate a league early, slow down in the 2nd half, whip Chris Sales ass twice, go into an offensive funk for 5 games, and remember what got them there for 2 games to win the pennant.

Both stories are good.

That same .500 team can win the whole damn thing, too. Is it less of an accomplishment because now it's easier to do?

Regardless for outcome over the next week and a half, I'm proud of my Astros and they've had one heck of a season to win the ALCS. Of course the WS is preferable.

No, but it becomes the only thing that really matters. You've already felt what would be like to lose the WS from 05. No one's saying you can't be proud of getting to the WS...but you know it's not enough.

Less of an accomplishment? Maybe... I mean, the team that wins 95+ games and wins the World Series probably technically accomplished more than a team that was 0.500 and wins the World Series.

But at that point it's kind of "don't care, won World Series".

Well, they did most likely beat several 95+ win teams to get there.

And, because of this, they were technically the best team...the question is just whether the best team across 11 (and those 11 are against the best teams record wise) trumps what happened in 162.

Baseball should really have a regular season title (maybe if they ever go to a balance schedule) that matters along side a World Series trophy. It won't happen since it's pretty much against the American sports mentality, but in baseball it makes the most sense due to variance and the complete different strategy/tactics to win most games across 162 vs playoffs.
