6 per 9 innings, including teammate visits.

So no more catcher courtesy visit when the ump takes one?

Does it count against you if you "visit" to pull a guy?

LOL, somehow I don't think that one will count. This rule isn't going to be well received. Limit visits by the coaches maybe, but the player one affects strategy, or when they need to change signs due to runners on base, etc.

A little more detail:

Quote:

1. Mound visits:
Mound visits will be limited to six per team per nine innings. Teams will receive an additional visit for every extra inning played. Any manager, coach or player visit to the mound will count as a mound visit.
Visits to the mound to clean cleats in rainy weather, to check on an injury or potential injury or after the announcement of an offensive substitution are excepted.
Also, normal communication between player and pitcher that do not require either to vacate their position on the field do not count as a visit.
If a team is out of visits, the umpire will have discretion to grant a visit at the catcher's request if he believes there has been a cross-up between the pitcher and catcher.

I'm thinking visits to make a pitching change won't count, but I'm not completely clear from that.

What are they going to do to enforce it? Award a ball to the batter? A walk?

This is freaking stupid.

Pretty sure the penalty is an automatic pitching change. No different that 2 visits by a coach in an inning. Which will ironically result in more time being spent changing pitchers.

Easy loophole:

"Oh no we're crossed up ump. I need to go talk to my pitcher."

I wonder if a signal from the dugout to change pitchers counts?

How much of a problem is this really in games as far as slowing it down?

Unnecessary pickoff attempts are far more annoying.

In a regular season game that doesn't have a high leverage moment, this generally won't make a big difference. In playoff games where it seems there's a mound visit after every batter, this will make a big difference.

I guess after thinking about it, you have games where you make 4+ pitching subs easily. No way they can count a pitching change as a visit.

I'm not mad about limiting coaches coming out without making a change but punishing a catcher or other position player for running over for a quick word is so dumb.

Well the rule is that any mound visit after the 6th (in 9 innings) results in the pitcher having to be replaced. So it won't really punish situations like you're talking about.

An extra 15-20 minutes of baseball doesnt stop me from going nearly as much as $25 to park $65 ea for 4 decent tickets and $$50 for a coupla beers and some snacks for the family

If they sped up specific players & teams who are habitual offenders, they wouldn't need to change these rules.

Red Sox & Yankees...entire teams must speed it up. Pitchers who walk off the mound after every pitch and have a routine longer than Nomar's before they get back on the rubber need to speed it up.

Most players don't. Why is MLB afraid to go after those who abuse it the most? These changes are ridiculous.

Games just about all over the place are too long. It's not a 2 or 3 team issue.

They should go after the individuals but they also have a league wide issue and going after the latter doesn't preclude cracking down on the former and vice versa.

Things that I see wrong with baseball are DH, batters need to stop the drama at the plate (get in the box!) and usual start times are too late.

Stop jacking with every nuance to save 15 minutes!
