Pretty cool video from 1986 season. I was just getting into baseball. Some of my first baseball cards I can remember were 86 Topps Rangers players. Cool to hear Mark Holz's voice in some of the clips. A lot of excitement with this team and a great season. Lots of good footage of the old Arlington Stadium as well.

Fun season. I was at the last game, sitting in Eddie Chiles' seats behind home plate. I think Fletcher batted .300. Incaviglia, Sierra, McDowell, LP, Boo, O'Brien. They also had Jose Guzman and Edwin Correa, I think. A lot of promise, that in what the the Ranger fashion of the day, couldn't build on it.

there was a little window open in the AL West in 86 & 87.

between the Royals' good teams in the first half of the decade...and LaRussa's A's teams in the last years of the 80's

Good team, some huge names on that roster. We would have been a title contender had they figured out how to get Dave Stewart to pitch like he did for the A's. A bullpen of Russell, Mitch, and Mahorcic? Yes please.

You can't talk '86 Rangers with talking Inky. Jumped straight to the majors after his 1985 season at Oklahoma State in which he hit 48 homers and drove in 143 runs in 75 games, hitting .464.

Always thought it was odd he hit 30 homers his rookie year then never got back to that plateau again.

Game of adjustments. Once the book was out on him he never adjusted.
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

Edwin Correa, Jose Guzman, Bobby Witt all coming on board...so much promise with those 3 young pitchers. Coupled with veteran Charlie Hough it was a formidable starting rotation

Thanks for posting this - it brings back a lot of good memories and names I hadn't thought of in a while: Scooter Fletcher, Pete O'Brien, Larry Parrish and Oddibe McDowell to name a few. My grandmother (who died this February at the age of 100) watched those teams religiously. Charlie Hough was her favorite pitcher, I think mainly because she loved to watch the knuckleball. Despite watching him for years (and hearing his name said by the announcers a million times) I don't think she ever did figure out how to pronounce his last name. She alternated between calling him Charlie Ho (like "dough") or Charlie How (like "wow"). Or maybe she did know how to pronounce it and she just liked to aggravate her grandkids - that was entirely possible given her somewhat contrarian streak.

Can't remember if Geno Petralli was setting records for passed balls by then or if he was still working on the loading docks of the Dr. Pepper plant.
