I'm thinking about taking the family to a concert at Red Rocks in mid-June and wanted to make a multi-day trip out of it. What's a good family area within a couple hours of Denver with mountains, kid stuff, breweries, etc?

We will probably stay in Denver the day of the concert but are willing to drive the few days before.

I'd look at Golden area. Good breweries, food, outdoor stuff and close to Red Rocks. Dinosaur Ridge is right up the road for the kids if they are into that. Then it's easy to get into the mountains for some more fun, Evergreen, Idaho Springs, etc, depending on what you are into and what the family is up for.

What concert? When I looked at the schedule the bands were terrible.

For the concert, stay here:

For the non-concert portion, look at these less common and more exciting options:

Leadville
Buena Vista

LV and BV are a LONG way from RR Amp. Leadville is also above 10,000 ft so most tourists don't do well maintaining in that elevation.

If I was going out 90+ miles and had kids, I'd be looking at Grand Lake.

I'm looking at that exact Whiskey Meyers show in the 14th as we'll be in town for a convention.

I'm looking to take 15-20 clients out to red rocks, does anyone have a good limo/party bus rec that will round trip out to red rocks from convention center? Internet search is a dime a dozen

It's been a while but the Origin used to have a shuttle to RR, but I didn't learn of the sign-up until arrival, and it was full. I would check in advance before booking, otherwise good stay.

Grand Lake is badass. Have zero problems talking my wife and kids into trips up there and we live on the south side. Can also hit Winter Park along the way which has a few nice spots for us to goof around.

I've been planning on getting tickets to this concert as well. Not sure how old your kids are or if it matters to you, but I would expect a decent amount of weed being smoked there just as a heads up.

We all have our different tastes in music but it is just weird to me to see someone say the lineup this summer is not good. Red Rocks is 95% alt rock... sorry they didn't invite Morgan Wallen for you.

As for what to do.

The family focused answer for summer activities is almost always Breckenridge, Winter Park, or Vail. Problem is, with this years snowfall and cool spring I don't think they will have summer activities open by mid-June. I think they are all saying late June.

I looked it up. Winter Park and Vail are trying to open for summer on June 16, Breck is saying June 30. If they get it done, either vail or WP is an incredible summer family day or two. Neither is too far from Morrison/Denver

red rocks calendar is the same every year nowadays it seems;

A bunch of modern indy stuff I've never heard of, then widespread panic, avett bros, string cheese incident and umphry's mcgee all doing 3 nights in a row, a beatles tribute, some sort of dark side of the moon show, the locals nathaniel rateliff and big head todd at some point, and a few bands like ween or beck.. old school indy. Oh and usually 311.

And lots of yoga.

Oh my, don't tell my daughter or she'll totally want to go. I'm so proud of her, 18 and has the best taste in music! She has a playlist that is entitled "Am I really a 50 year old man?" that I love, and I know Whiskey Myers is on it.

Are you driving to Denver from Texas or flying? I'm always trying to get friends going to Colorado to pay us a stop here in Canyon and spend a day at Palo Duro. In the summer, stay overnight and see Texas the musical. Nobody has regretted it thus far!

First, I'm jealous! Red Rocks is amazing and Whiskey Myers will be awesome!

Golden is one of our favorites places right near RR.

It's not as mountainous but we really love stopping in Colorado Springs on the way up and spending some time at Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs and Cave of the Winds. Great Family fun!

We also love Fort Collins - great breweries, restaurants and events for families.

We did that and the play was great but 2 minutes after the show was over came the biggest flash flood/gulleywasher in the last 15 years, and we thought we were gonna die driving out that nite back up the canyon road. I don't know how the tour buses made it back up.....

We may have beaten that this spring up here. Water everywhere. I think I'm enjoying this climate change thing.

This probably goes without saying, but wear comfortable shoes to Red Rocks. The walk up the ramp from the parking lot is, um, breath-taking for a flat-lander.

And while in the vicinity, go grab a mountain pie from Beau Jo's Pizza in Idaho Springs. Trust me.
