Looking to put together a 40ish birthday trip next year.

Anyone done any southern hemisphere skiing during the summer?

Looks like Chile and Argentina are decent options?

Undecided if will bring kids or not, so don't want to be staying in a hostel.

TIA

Never done it. But a summer trip to Portillo, Chile is pretty high on my ski bucket list.

I had a buddy who was a ski instructor at Beaver Creek after A&M. Worked all winter in CO. Couple months off, worked all summer skiing in NZ. Couple months off and rinse and repeat.

If you wanted to combine a Europe summer with skiing, Hintertux in Austria has year round glacier skiing.

Isn't Mammoth planning to be open into August this year?

I've done basic internet research, just looking for actual person insight.

Seems like South America is better option cost and travel duration, especially if I'm taking kids. But with wife and kids, not looking for modest or less accommodations.

Which places have you hit in South America?

Portillo is the most popular I think but the one thing I've heard is the accomodations are not anything special. As long as you know what you're getting accomodations wise should be good.

Queenstown NZ, The Rmarkables are incredible and scenery around there is just out of this world. Also do the small plane flight into Mill-ford Sound for the day (scenes from July 6 years ago)

NZ is a huge commitment. It's beautiful and amazing but it's not cheap and it's not easy to get too.
