Are Visa cards good enough? I've seen threads on some travel blogs about a debit card that is the best solution. Any help from those of you who have more experience would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with this. If it will be a new card make sure you let them know about your travel or they may block purchases.

I just used my amex all over europe with no fees. Didn't even need to mention that I was traveling there
