France is as big as Texas, and has some noticeable regional variation in its food. The cuisine in Normandy and Brittany is rather different from that on the Cote d'Azure even though you will see a lot of fresh seafood in both places. Lyon is sometimes called the gastronomic capital of France.
Basically, there is good food in France just about everywhere, so you can pick a region with things to see beyond the food, then figure out the food from there. If you do get out into the countryside, find out when the market days occur in the various towns; there are some great market days in smaller towns.
