They have some standard economy flights Austin >London >Rome round trip for $750 in April. Seems like a good deal. Any reason not to go ahead and book these?

Economy on BA and AA are largely identical. BA flies the A350 to Austin, which is one of the most modern aircraft there is at this point.

One thing to watch out for are the landing fees at Heathrow. You see that $750 fare but the landing fees that get tacked on could make it go up by half of that.

It's not that bad. Take some melatonin and knock out. Unless you're taller than 6' 2" you'll be fine.

BA charges for advanced seat selection in any cabin (even Business). The higher the level of class, the higher the seat selection fee is.

Which is absurd. I'm fine to do that on a short haul economy ticket but it's insane to have to pay to select a seat on long haul business.

The fees are part of the fare quote. Also if you arw connecting the fees are less than sstaying in london.

I booked a BA to Israel with layover in London for Christmas and all the seat selections were no charge at about row 34 and back. And I don't have any priority points with them.

I feel like almost all of the American and European airlines are pretty much the same if you are flying in economy. I just go with the cheapest/fastest option and deal with it. The only time I make a conscious decision to go with a certain airline is when some of the Asian airlines are an option. I will choose Singapore or Eva over their western counterparts any day.

We flew BA economy from DFW to London three months ago. It's not that bad. However next time we're going to upgrade to premium economy. A lot more leg room and space between the seats. About $500 more per ticket.

Connecting in LHR is a beating. The easiest I've found is AF with SkyPriority connecting through CDG.

BA's business class out of Austin is the newest version of their business class, with individual suite pods. Very comfortable and worth the cost if you can find a deal. We took it to LHR then to Basel last summer. I got a double bailey's after dinner, watched a few minutes of TV and went to sleep until they woke me for breakfast. Wonderful!

Taking the same flight soon on our way to Egypt.
