My kids are on the cusp of being out of booster seat range. That said, we're going to be traveling in a situation where proper public transportation like a subway is scarce and doesn't really go anywhere and a rental car wouldn't really be practical. Will Uber drivers care? Do I need to see about finding some compact/easy to carry boosters?

I've taken my son on plenty of Uber rides and not one has asked about a car seat. He is 7.

No, especially if they're close to being out of boosters. Mine was still in a high back booster the first time we took her to NYC and not one single Uber driver said a word to us.

We have used tons of Ubers in a variety of countries with our young kids and in our experience they almost never care… kids would have to be obviously young enough for a car seat for them to even mention it.

So you carried it around all day?

No, I meant that she was still in a HBB at home. We didn't take one to NYC at all and no one even asked about it.

Your question was generic, but in Ireland for instance, kids aren't required to be in any type of car seat for taxis/ride shares. I'd assume that's pretty common

We did get refused one time. In Asheville, NC. I couldn't believe it. We spent the the entire day meandering about town and purposefully ended the day at a Trader Joe's with the intention to buy a few days worth of groceries for our AirBnB. Did our shopping, got an Uber, he came and said "Nope, company policy. I could lose my Uber license and if I see you request another I will report you." So we had to walk 2 miles over a hill loaded up with enough food for a family of five plus 7-8 bottles of wine and at least one six pack of beer. Good thing our kids are decent hikers, lol.

Our daughter was 6 at the time and would normally ride in a booster at home but we'd never had a problem in any of our other travels, both before and after that incident. It's just one of those funny travel memories now but I remember really slamming those beers when we got back to our rental.

We used one of these when traveling during the booster seat years. At first with an inflatable booster then without. Did this for Disney when using the "Minnie Van" service along with Uber, used on multiple trips. You can also use on a plane though we never did.

Better than toting around a car seat and/or a booster.

Regarding the hardarse Uber in Asheville... could it be maybe a state law that says children had to be in a booster? We never have been asked with or without the vest.

Why don't you just bring a booster. We've traveled with one a few times, it's hardly an issue or annoyance. I use the little strap thing to tie it to a roller bag, backpack or whatever.

Assuming you mean backless. They make them pretty compact, or get inflatable
