Wife and I are heading that way in June for four nights to celebrate 10 years. Any "must do's" or places to eat at that are "musts"?

So far the Olde Pink House is the only place I for sure want to make a reservation at for dinner. Plan on just strolling the town and eating/drinking until our hearts desire. Curious is there are any tours of mansions that are better than the rest, or they all about the same?

Also question about hotel. I currently have rooms booked at the Thompson (regular king) and at the Andaz (nicest suite they have), but I am curious if anyone suggests one over the other? I know the Thompson isn't necessarily in the Historic district, but still seems close enough, while the Andaz is pretty much smack dab in the heart of dining/shopping. Thompson is newer and more hip with the bigger pool, but Andaz has the better location. Not sure which to choose.

We stayed at the Marshall House a couple of years ago and loved it. Didn't rent a car as we just walked.

I'm headed to Savannah tomorrow. Doing 2 nights at Hamilton Turner (only hotel I could find in Savannah that allows check outs on Saturday), 1 night in Hilton Head and 2 nights in Charleston.

In Savannah we have dinner reservations at Olde Pink House and Cotton & Rye. We have a tour booked with Savannah Dan on Friday.

I'll come back to update next week.

I would do everything Harrington recommended plus Mrs Wilkes dining room for lunch one day, moon river brewing co, the hop-on hop-off trolley, and to do leopolds at the airport instead of waiting in line at the store in town

The Thompson is beautiful. It is far enough away from everything to be quiet but walking distance to the riverfront businesses.

Vic's on the River was a great dinner for us. We did not have reservations but were able to get a table right when they opened for dinner. Highly recommend.

I get to Savannah a couple times a year with work and stay at The Thompson. Great hotel within walking distance to river and downtown but far enough away to be quiet. I think the Thompson has the best view from the rooftop bar looking up the river.

Olde Pink House is a must if you can get in. Make sure to hit Planter's Tavern before or after dinner. I like Common and Crystal Beer Parlor, as well.

I haven't done any tours but the wife and I are headed in Nov to see Nate Bargatze and will probably do some more touristy stuff so I'll probably take some recommendations from this thread as well.

If you have a car, drive out towards Tybee Island and check out the Crab Shack!

This thought crossed my mind, but don't necessarily feel like dealing with a rental car and driving there and back just for a one nights stay.

is it a pain to walk from the thompson to forsyth park and the area around Jones st? looking at google maps it seems like a pretty good hike to get anywhere from the hotel except for the riverfront area.

45min or so, but if the weather is nice and you have the time it is not a pain.

We used the trolley system they had to get around for most part. We grabbed a nice lunch to go from somewhere and ate at Forsyth Park. Riverfront was really cool

Tybee Island was fun, Cant remember the burger place we went to but that was the time we had the kids in tow

Olde Pink House and Mrs Wilkes Dining Room were the two that shined while we were there as a couple but have heard good things about Vic's and Cotton and Rye

Leopolds for ice cream was a good choice but that was also with kids in tow

I think three days is plenty IMO so the fouth day would be me in a rental car at Beaufort and Tybee Island but come back and tell us what you did

I know you golf a bit so Harbour Town in Hilton Head if you take a day away but not sure you wanna bring the clubs but that along with Beufort and Tybee Island gives you reason enough to rent a car for a day

If I had 5 days in that area...Charleston for 3.5 and savannah for 1.5 days with the layover in Beaufort since you have been to Charleston just to give you an idea of the value of my opinion of the two

Sorry for the delay. We enjoyed Savannah, but not as much as Charleston. If we were to go back to Savannah, we would definitely stay at the JW Marriott. Very cool place. I didn't know much about it before we went, but wish we had stayed there. Didn't love the Hamilton Turner. Small, weird manager guy who was up in your business.... But we are not B&Bers. I like anonymity.

Olde Pink House was great. Nothing else we ate in Savannah really stands out as noteworthy.

We did a tour with Savannah Dan. We enjoyed him. Very informative and entertaining.

Great town to walk and explore. But Charleston blows it away in our opinion.

Hilton Head was beautiful. Ate lunch at Hudson's, a really cool seafood restaurant on the water. It was excellent. On our way to Charleston from HH we stumbled upon Bluffton, SC on a town festival day. If I hit the lottery I would be moving to Bluffton. Awesome little town.

How was the Hamilton Turners location compared to the JW/river district area? I was able to get reservations changed to the Perry Lane which is close to the Hamilton you stayed at. It seems that area is more quiet and residential vs the JW in the heart of the bars/tourists places.

Wife and I enjoyed the Collins Quarter for brunch when we visited a couple years ago. They have a couple locations, one being in Forsyth Park.

We enjoyed the restaurant in the 17 hundred 90 Inn. Didn't make it to Mrs Wilkes, but it looked interesting. Treylor Park Double Wide Diner was a good breakfast. 8th Air Force Historical Museum is good if you like that sort of thing. We made a game out of walking to every square. Walk down Jones Street. If you haven't seen and or read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, do so, it will enhance your visit.
