Looking for some recommendations of festivals in Texas to check out to start planning out some adventures. Small town festivals are the best but it's sometimes tough to find new ones without knowing ahead of time them happening. Help out a wanderer and give some good ideas for future fun!

My travels have taken me to a few, but not many. They're always interesting, though.

As a sort of opposite to Octoberfest, check out Munster's Germanfest. Usually in the Spring, around April/May. It's a neat town, and a sort of typical Octoberfest-style festival. But, in the Spring!

Some odd-ball festivals I've stumbled across as well:

Lamesa "Chicken Fried Steak" festival. Don't expect good CFS, but it is a neat festival if you happen to be in the area. I don't think I'd go out of my way for it, though.

On the other side of the state, the "East Texas Poultry Festival" is interesting. Apparently it just passed, though.

Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games. Have not been in a number of years, but in the past it was a great time. I think they've had some difficulties of late, so not sure if its still a thing. I believe there is an Irish equivalent, but idk much about that one.

Poteet "Strawberry Festival" in the Spring. Have not been to it myself, but have heard good things.

Parker County "Peach Festival". It's neat, but its always way too hot. Beginning of July, on concrete in downtown Weatherford. If you don't mind the heat, it's worth checking out.

I'm hopeful more traveled people than me can chime in. It's an interesting thread, and I'm guessing there are dozens of great community, music, food, etc...festivals all over the State that few know about.

Don't forget there will be a total eclipse running through Texas next April.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Going forward if y'all could include dates on when these festivals are happening, it'd make this thread a lot more useful. Thanks for the awesome suggestions so far!

We really enjoyed the Red Dirt BBQ Fest in Tyler in the spring.
The BBQ was great and the music lineup was awesome if you like Texas Country/Red Dirt genre.

I really liked that you could leave and re-enter, parking was free and it was right on the downtown square.

It's usually the first weekend in May.

+1 for Wurstfest and Westfest

Since I've moved back to Texas this August, I've checked out the Texas Renaissance Festival for the first time since 1997 and a couple weeks ago I checked out the Lone Star Rally in Galveston (it was fun even though I don't even ride a motorcycle).

Pro tip: Seek out small town Catholic church festivals in the central Texas area.

You'll be guaranteed to find:

- fantastic local bbq
- homemade bakery goods/garden goods
- plentiful cold beer on the cheap

They make for a great Saturday, and you def don't even need to be from the area to enjoy. Many of them have the classic cake walks, ring toss for homemade pickles, gun raffles, live music. And wayyyyy less crowded than the big festivals everyone loves.

Can't even begin to describe the joy of a early summer Catholic festival buzz while eating smoked bbq and listen to the local Czech band

Cuero Turkeyfest. You can start Saturday morning watching the Turkey races down the main drag, then starting early evening you can listen to some top tier music lineups that last until Midnight or past that. It's a really good time with a lot of good folks. Second weekend of October every year.

I subscribe to Texas Highways and keep all the old issues. Just about every festival in the state is covered somewhere in the magazines. I'm retiring next year and plan to start hitting up some of the festivals.

Heck yeah, well let us know of your exploits. I'm sure a get together of Ags at a festival would be a good time for sure.
