did a quick search but really only found info on Park City.

Wife and I are going Mar 1-4 for a wedding and staying downtown. Neither of us have ever been before. We arrive around noon on the 1st, wedding is evening of the 2nd and we'll have all day on the 3rd. Tried to convince the wife to go skiing on the 3rd, but she hasn't been in 20 years and is too scared to go waste a day falling down.

I have zero interest in seeing any of the Mormon stuff other than maybe a quick walk by outside, so you can skip that. That said, looking for suggestions on things to do in/around SLC. We are big outdoors people, but I'm assuming the Wasatch Range will still be under snow that time of year. I see that Park City has other winter activities like sledding, XC skiing, etc. Those could be options. Antelope Island looks interesting.

Also looking for suggestions on places to eat/drink. We like a nice meal, but we aren't really into trendy bars and such. Might stop in for a cocktail somewhere, but much more likely to hit some breweries.

I'm sure I probably left out some important details to get good recommendations, so let me know if you have questions to dial in suggestions. Much appreciated!

The Mormon stuff is the big draw in town. The grounds are pretty incredible. Unfortunately, the Temple is under construction.

There are nice views from the State capitol.

Park City is such an easy trip, it's worth going if you want to do some winter sports.

Get ready to only have <5% beer on draft. Slackwater is a great pizza pub. TF Brewing is my favorite brewery in town. Kiitos Brewing is also a fun time.

Purgatory Bar is a fun spot for dinner and drinks.

And even though, you're not looking for fancy, Lake Effect and Pallet are nicer dinner & cocktails places.

Red Iguana #2 is usually my first stop when I fly into town.

Mormons still have vices and they know how to make cookies. There are a lot of local cookie places that are better than Crumbl. Crave Cookies are my favorite cookies. Goodly is good too.

If there's snow, they have sledding at Popperton Park and Liberty Park. If you head out toward Park City, there's a great sledding hill at the Overland Trailhead.

i might have used the wrong wording. Totally find with a nice/fancy meal, but not looking for trendy bars that have $30 cocktails for no apparent reason other than the bar is "upscale."

i have a hard time convincing myself to get mexican food in utah, especially since I live in Texas.

Mexican food is way better than Tex Mex. And they've got legit Mexican food.

If you're looking for a nice dinner, check out Log Haven up Millcreek Canyon.

If y'all had the kiddos, I'd recommend the Hogle Zoo. We don't spend much time in SLC; always book it over to Park City.

There will be lots of snow in March, so I'd suggest a daytrip to PC and go snow shoeing. LOTS of trails. A visit to the Winter Olympics grounds is pretty cool too. We haven't done any dog sledding yet, but I hear it's a lot of fun.

was going to shoot you a text if we end up heading to PC, but wasn't sure how much time you actually spend in SLC.

Yeah, other than the airport, not much at all in SLC. Plenty to do in PC without skiing.

No joke, a great little hike out of downtown is to go straight north from Temple Square, past the state capitol building, and up through this neighborhood to Ensign Peak. Great view overlooking the city and the lake. Also, know that the lake smells awful.

I also liked to ride the tram up to the University of Utah and play disc golf.

I haven't hiked it, but the Bonneville Shoreline Trail is near the state capitol and pretty good for an urban area.

Finally, getting to the mountains is easy and they are outstanding.

close enough to town that wouldn't have to worry about snow (assuming no recent big snowstorms)?

i think i roughly know what you are talking about from my friend's strava runs. seems like a common way to get into the mountains from downtown. But unfortunately, with the wedding, we don't have a "tour guide."

Copper Onion for lunch or dinner. They have a companion bar as well. I have been there several times, it's always awesome.

Siegfried's deli is unique deli for lunch. It can get busy.

There is a Winter Olympics museum near PC if you are interested in that sort of thing.

missed this earlier and wanted to say thanks for the recommendations on breweries. As for the 5% thing, i'm aware of the laws. I've been to southern utah several times, just never been up north.

It's in the downtown area, I walked out of the convention center at 5pm and was at the top of Ensign hill in about 50 minutes. Walked back down through downtown and had dinner at the Green Pig over by the library. The Grand American is really nice if you're staying there.

If you're willing to take a bit of a drive, highly recommend Park City Peaks snowmobile excursion. We've gone with them twice, one last March and once last week. I was skeptical that I would enjoy it the first time, but it is so much fun! If you want something more active, All Seasons Adventures does great guided snowshoeing trips.

snowmobiling is out. Wife is from northern Wisconsin and knows way too many people who have been killed on them. She won't get on one.

We do enjoy snowshoeing though, so I'll take a look.

The wild thing about Utah is like, maybe I want a small pour of that 12% BBA Imperial Stout and they're like, "NO you have to order an entire 22 ounce bomber and drink the whole thing here."

I usually switch to High West whiskey when in Utah. Easier than dealing with the 5% rules.

Try this for a fun experience. I did this with my wife a few years ago for a special occasion. They show availability on the 3rd.

I travel to SLC for work quite a bit and the food is generally good but not great. We usually hit some combination of Copper Onion, Market Street Grill, Eva, and Whiskey Street for dinner in the downtown area. I also like Red Iguana II for Mexican food, it's pretty solid.

For cheaper lunch options, we like Toaster's Deli or Caputo's for sandwiches, Bruges Belgian Bistro for chicken and waffles, and the food courts around City Creek Mall.

As for hiking, Antelope Island is an interesting visit and most likely will be snow free except for Frary Peak. There is Buffalo Point hike which is short and has 360 views of the salt lake.
From downtown a short hike is Memory Grove park and as stated before if you hang a left you go up ensign peak. Go straight and you go up city creek canyon a long way. Go right and go are on the shoreline trail which has great views of the valley. That time of year you will most likely have snow but it is very civilized as it is completely tracked out. Actually better with snow because by mid March it is too muddy.
The Wasatch is not actually off limits because there are some great hikes that are even better in the winter and the popular ones get tracked out even right after big dumps. Grandeur, Pipeline, Lake Blanche.

Oh and if you have dinner downtown, don't have dessert at the restaurant. Go to Gourmandise.
