I'll be down there Friday night - Monday with one of my teenagers for an event this weekend and need some food recs. Any new "must try" places? A couple of good breakfast/brunch spots (I know it's a major hot spot for those)?

(checked the first two pages for NOLA spots and didn't see a thread so apologies if this is a regular ask on this page)

TIA

We were there right before Christmas. Didn't do brunch because breakfast was included with our hotel rate.

Annunciation was hands down our favorite. I don't think they have brunch, but I highly recommend them for dinner.

I've always had a good meal at Ruby Red Slipper. I think there are a few different locations but they do different versions of eggs benedict that are good.

Get in line now. I'll eat chargrilled oysters at 5 spots just as good in the area before you get seated.

Okay, I finally get to contribute something. I am definitely a NOLA foody...

Breakfast
You might hear someone say go to Mothers...DON'T! Not that great and their coffee is poopoo.
The #1 place to go is Elizabeths. Hand Down! There is no argument for this one. Anybody not mentioning Elizabeths, has not been to Elizabeths.
Mr B's is good
Luke is good
Ruby Slipper is good

Chef Ron's Gumbo Stop for the best Gumbo in the city
Skip Ruby Slipper if the line is long and go around the corner to the Commerce Diner at the corner of Camp and Gravier. Good breakfast without the ridiculous line of tiktok influencers at the Ruby Slipper
Restaurant R'evolution
GW Fins is my favorite High End seafood in town.
Broussard's Brunch is fantastic and really cool old style high end service
Commander's Palace is fun too and good food. 3 Martini Lunch on weekdays is fun - 3 martinis at .25 a piece.

For an off-the-wall recommendation, I really love Tito's Ceviche and Pisco in the garden district off of Magazine. Since I've moved back to Dallas I have craved Peruvian food as good as theirs and have yet to find it.

Like this list. Never heard of going to Mothers for breakfast however

Toast and Elizabeth's are my favorites for breakfast. Camillla Grill and Deanie's are good as well and not on the expensive side.

Cafe Du Monde is great for a snack anytime but more so for the people watching and taking over to Jackson Square

Not sure if Central Grovery is reopened for a muffallata but that would be good as well

Liquor store next to Central Grocery now sells them, CG is still empty. I guess they make the sammys and that's it and they peddle them through the liquor store

Bearcat is great for breakfast but expect a 30-45 minute wait.

The jazz brunch at Commander's Palace is good and a fun thing to do once (bit pricey though).

If you want pizza the best i've had in town is Z's.

Other places I like for lunch/dinner are Saba, Mais Arepa, & La Petite Grocery.

For Breakfast / Brunch, my go to is Surrey's Cafe on Magazine. They don't serve alcohol, so you have to bring your own champagne for mimosas. (Its always at least 30 min wait if the city is remotely busy)

Also, like others have said above, Bearcat is great for breakfast too.

Toast on Gentilly Blvd is another great breakfast option.

For all-time legendary creole cooking, Lil Dizzy's Cafe on Esplanade and Coop's Place on Decatur are mandatory eating.

Bourbon House has a "Frozen Bourbon Milk Punch" that's a must try.

I will third Bearcat. We ate at the one in uptown and got there just before it opened and were seated right away. One of the best breakfasts I have had anywhere.

I have jumped and going to Felix's when the line is too long.

I am bummed out that the Acme in Houston didn't make it.

Been a few years since I've been but Mother's is always a go-to for us when in NOLA.

That Ferdi special and bread pudding are damn good.

Man I'm jealous, love the food in New Orleans. Many good options already listed, but it'll be hard for me not to get either the trout almondine at Mandina's or a muffuletta and a Pimm's Cup at The Napoleon House whenever I make it that way. Enjoy it.

Cochon and Butcher are both excellent (they are around the corner from each other and share a kitchen). Cochon is definitely fancier, and Butcher is a lot more casual.

So where did you go?

We were able to hit up Dragos twice for chargilled osyters, Mothers, Red Fish Grill and Cochon Butcher as we left. Due to weather avoidance we missed our reservation at GW Fins. Got a Hang Grenade, not sure if same as when in college but not nearly as strong it seemed. Cafe Du Monde for some beignets right before working the VB tourney. Darryls in Lake Charles on the way in to NOLA. Top notch across the board. Red Fish was good but portion size vs price wasnt worth it IMO

Dinner schedules kind of got weird.

Hit Toast and Ruby Red Slipper for brunch. Both were fantastic. Magazine Pizza late one night was REALLY solid. And Cafe Du Monde late one evening for the kids to have a dessert.

Solid trip of people watching and the weather was dang near perfect.

Those of you that drive to NOLA stop at Pat's of Henderson. You will not be disappointed.
