I recall lots of discussion in the past few years about how long it was taking to get passports renewed. As a result I requested expedited processing when I sent my wife's passport for renewal on January 2nd, to make sure we had the new one before the next scheduled trip in March.

The new passport arrived yesterday, exactly 11 days after I sent the old one, and five days after they received it.

Best advice i can offer - use a passport renewal service. It is worth the expense

It's not as bad as it seems. Renewal times outside of the summer rush (April-July) are fine. Renew early if you have a summer expiration or need a new one for summer. You don't have to wait. Also renewals are usually quicker than new passports. We renewed our child's passport which are technically new passports in April of 2023 (expedited) and received it submission to receipt in 17 days. Be early. Lots of horror stories but the wait times really amp up in the spring/summer. Have never used a renewal service. If you have a summer expiration go ahead and do it.

Renewed my daughter's in September. It took about 6 weeks w/out expedite.

Used expedite for my 2 kids since we are taking a trip in March, and it came in 1 week. I haven't received the old passport/ paperwork back yet though.

The old one is sent back snail mail so it normally arrives later.

Just did ours, took 3 weeks regular mail in service.

My 8 and 6 year old children got theirs in about one week...lady at USPS said it'll be 8.

I was pleasantly shocked.

Went in with Fianc on 12/29 to get it done to make sure it came in with plenty of time before honeymoon in Sept.
Got it in the mail yesterday.
12 business days, not counting the Federal holidays for the new year. I was flabbergasted after hearing the horror stories from last summer!

Wife and I went to get ours on Jan. 3rd. Just got them in the mail yesterday. Three weeks is not bad. They told us it would be 6-8 weeks. We did not pay the extra to expedite them

My advice is dont take this advice. Even in an emergency situation where youre without a passport within 7-10 days of travel, theres still better options than to throw money away using a renewal service.

Took the kids on a few days after Xmas to get new passports and selected standard service.

Arrived in the mail last week as did old passports.

Sent my renewal in today. No rush so I'm curious to see how long it takes

Wife sent hers in expedited. It arrived Wednesday and was put into the mail today.

Mailed mine in on Jan 4, it took 2.5 weeks to get there via priority mail, but was processed in less than 5 days. Received it today 1/27. expedited it and 2 day shipping.

We're taking our kids on their first trip outside the country in September, so they obviously need passports. My wife and I have passports, but they were about 3 months from being expired (we don't travel much).

My wife and I sent ours in on 2/9. We sent everything in for the kids on 2/13. We chose not to expedite or do priority shipping since our trip is so far out.

My wife and I got our passports last Friday (3/8), and our kids' passports came in the mail today.
