I'm going to be in Vegas for opening weekend of March Madness. Was wanting to bring my 19yo son out there for the weekend. Is he going to be able to do anything at all? I know he can't gamble. Can he go into a sportsbook or a bar at all? Maybe a watch party somewhere that will do bracelets so that under 21 could come in but not gamble or drink?

If he looks old you could get lucky and him not get carded, but I wouldn't bank on that.

Also pretty much all books with big seating have either min spends or expensive table reservations that weekend.

Well that's what I wanting to do. Buy us tickets to a watch party at a sportsbook. But if they're not going to allow him in...

Sports books are 21+ like the casinos. Fake ID is probably the way.

Well dang it. Maybe we can find something else to do out there. What do you if you're under 21 in vegas?

You get a fake ID. Aren't you paying attention?

I think a lot of hotels put on March Madness watch parties in their conference rooms (or at least they used to). It's basically a huge room with huge projectors/TVs and you pay a price to get in. I think they also have drink packages, or the ticket cost may be all you can drink. I'm not sure if they allow under 21 in those (they may not), but you may have better luck finding one of those that he can get into than trying to get him into a sportsbook without a fake ID.

If he's with you, he could technically drink. So if you buy him a ticket, maybe they wouldn't care? It's a long shot, but may be worth a shot. And these conference rooms have betting booths where you can bet without leaving the conference room as well, so you don't have to keep going to the sportsbook over and over.

Also, check the pool/sportsbook at CIRCA. Not sure if you have to be 21 to go to that pool or not. Maybe you do.

I would just do something else, would suck to get shut out of places and have to search all over the strip during one of the most insane times of years to find something sports related.

Like others have said, the odds of you getting him into a sportsbook that weekend are slim to none (legally, of course).

It won't be fun since they aren't 21. I'd look at something else.

To piggy back on the last two posts....unless you're there for a specific event and the timing isn't flexible, I'd also look at a different weekend. Everything is going to be crazy expensive specifically for March Madness, which you aren't even going to get to partake in.

I don't think any casino in Vegas allows that, despite Nevada state law that grants that option.

Go out to red rocks, go do mobster museum, look up a show or concert or sporting event to attend, play golf? Go shoot guns at the famous place there, you can google some fun things to do with teens and see if anything peaks your interest

I think the entire resort at Circa is 21+ and they check IDs at the entrances.

Well I think we'll still go. At the very least we can walk the strip and at least walk through all the casinos. Get some good meals and find something to do. Maybe go see the show at the sphere.

We took a Vegas Vacation type of family trip when I was probably 13ish? Didn't drive but flew to Vegas and rented a car. Saw the Hoover Damn, Grand Canyon, and hung out in Vegas for a couple nights. Possibly the worst vacation I have ever been on. I still give my parents huge crap for taking me there at that age. BORING AF. ZERO reason to go to Vegas until you're 21.

While it won't be at the top of my list for family vacations, I do feel like Vegas has changed a lot in the last (assuming) 20+ years....

Sounds fun, but would be more fun on a weekend that doesn't coincide with March Madness. That whole place will be a madhouse, just my opinion. To the last post, there definitely is a lot to do outside of gamble nowadays in and around Vegas.

I was at Circa last month - they checked ID's at the door on the way in for everyone.

Cosmopolitan sports book isn't great but it is right inside the entrance from LV blvd and you have to pass it to get to all the restaurants/check in. so maybe could loiter there

One of the most fun times I had was at March Madness in Vegas under 21. Most likely they'll never say anything as no one said anything to us as long as he doesn't try to drink or gamble. They're a little busy that day.

Most of the hotel / casino lounges are also converted to sports watching locations. Hooters used to be a blast as well. More like a sports book than local restaurants with everyone there to watch the games.

Any of these would be awesome places to make reservations for while your there. Hell, you could rotate through multiples. I'm sure there's others as well as the ESPN sports bar and the Hooters were both places we enjoyed, but are probably long gone by now.

To each their own.

A place like Red Rock is a kids dream. And a heck of lot cheaper than most resorts you would take kids to.

It was the highlight of our 4k mile road trip last year.

Suggest calling some non-gaming hotels on the strip (ex VDara or Waldorf) to see if they are having any game watching events. This way you are still in City Centre for restaurants at Aria or Cosmo. Can still walk the strip whenever as well. Not to mention can see shows etc too.

Circa is 21+. The only exception is kids along with their parents who have reservations at Barry's Steakhouse. Not sure what they do if you have a reservation and get in and just no-show the rez though. Maybe they have security walk you to Barry's. No idea.

yes and the beauty of that is you don't have to wait at the bar behind a group of wooooo girls on a bachelorette party all being carded before they get their drinks ordered. Also keeps those denziens of Fremont Street who don't have an ID for one reason or another from gaining access.

As some have said the first weekend of March Madness is insane. I've been on Final Four weekend a couple of times and it's just like any other weekend. I"m assuming the Sweet 16 weekend will be similar to a normal weekend. Still fun just not as much of a madhouse if crowds aren't your thing.

I want to experience the madness. I think we'll still have fun. He won't get in until late Friday. Think I'm going to get us a spot at a rooftop sportsbar for the afternoon or evening, maybe see the show at the sphere, and just walk through some of the casinos and loiter a bit. If we're told to move on we will. So we'll have Friday evening, all of Saturday, and then an early flight home Sunday.
