Just starting the initial stages of planning a trip to Scotland. Will be staying in Colyumbridge for a week. Has anyone here done the North Coast 500? Additionally, what's it like driving in Scotland? Where are the best places to rent a car?

This will be just the wife and me. No golf. Strictly sightseeing and drinking scotch.

ETA: Trying for late August/early September

The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Driving is not bad, make sure you get automatic rental car. I live in Aberdeen, Scotland currently (been here last 1.5 years). My wife and I went to Inverness/Skye/Torridon last September for anniversary road trip, North coast 500 will be awesome. Expect a fair bit of driving on single track roads

I'll be there in June...based in Tongue. I'm also interested in any tips for driving in the fsr north. Would also love to know about any off-the-radar towns to visit.
