Multi City Flights

Had a quick question. My wife and I are going to Europe this summer and will be visiting multiple countries. We've been trying to piece together flights but they've been relatively expensive thus far.

I did find a multi city flight for a lot cheaper than anything else we'd seen thus far. The ticket would be DFW->Brussels and the return leg would be Paris->DFW, all booked through United. We'd be taking the train between Brussels and Paris

Has anyone had any experience with a set up like that all in one booking?

Done this on many trips without issue. Book it under one itinerary or two one ways and you'll be fine. Just last year I did:

  • Houston to Newark to Zurich and returned London to Chicago to Houston
  • Houston to Amsterdam and returned Brussels to Washington D.C. to Houston

Sure. Late 2019, I flew into Tokyo NRT, took the Shinkansen to Osaka and flew home from KIX because that was the only flight schedule I could get to work on Qantas between Sydney and Japan.

should be able to book that online with no issue. Did DFW to CDG and flew home LHR to DFW last summer all on American on one itinerary.

I've done it on United as well. Sometimes you do luck out and get a cheaper flight. Just depends on the airports involved.

I do this for clients all the time.

Last year did IAH-FRA, then AMS-IAH for my personal trip.

Super easy and def cheaper than one way flights!

Almost all airline websites have the "multi-city" option on the main page.

Done this many times domestically and several times international. Technically called "open Jaw" and most airlines allow one open jaw per itinerary. They will typically allow more than multiple city connections where you arrive and leave from the same airport

This is our standard flight plan when we know we will be traveling all over during the trip.

As others have said, this is pretty common. I went to Austria end of last year with a short layover in Frankfurt going and coming. Flew Lufthansa

IAH - FRA (Lufthansa operated by United, so United plane)
FRA - VIE
SZG - FRA
FRA - IAH

All booked under same itinerary. Took a train between Vienna and Salzburg.

Enjoy your trip!

Multi-city is a great way to see more of Europe plus you can enjoy seeing the countryside by train.

In addition to the multi-city booking that others have mentioned, you may also look at separate one-way flights across different airlines (just go to Google Flights and search there). Two one-way can sometimes be cheaper than a multi-city, especially if you are traveling on points/miles.

I book multi city all the time. Usually cheaper than separate itineraries.

Used to do this all the time for extended business trips to Europe. For instance, would fly into Paris and depart from Copenhagen or Geneva. Never an issue.

We ended up doing DFW->AMS and then Rome->DFW this way. Ended up being significantly cheaper than any other way to buy the flights
