Do people ever actually pay for these upgrades?

I don't remember what mine was last year but it was ridiculous.

Have they reset for the year? I'm showing Silver again and not sure how. Didn't earn it for sure. Don't even think I came close as I hardly flew last year.

I was silver last year. It actually earned me upgrade to first class on 12/31 for my daughter and I. Had to cancel though and rebook on American so I could get home much earlier in the day (day my dad died).

Man that's nuts. There might be someone that could charge to a business that would do it but hard to imagine it's worth it.

I got the same deal today but for gold. I'm only silver and they wanted $5000 for me to upgrade. It's crazy.

I was Silver last year and paid for 4 rountrips in 2023. I did not make Silver staus

They want me to pay $770 to upgrade

I have almost 300,000 points and will not buy a flight in 2024

So hubs just told me I'm silver cause I have the credit card .

I'm wondering if I hit gold 2 years ago cause I took a flight just to get a status. (Roundtrip to Dallas and back).

Ha that was my exact first thought. They want me to pay 10k so I can get a snack and a beer. Out of their damn minds.

Got mine. Quite a bit less but still ridiculous. I'm guessing upgrade wise this year in platinum will be similar to 1K the last few years as there are a lot of us getting knocked down w the higher hurdles.

I cant even get the ****ing United site to load on Chrome the last few days, let alone look at whatever this algorithm is throwing at me.

I was GS in 2023 and consistently number 1 on the upgrade list, but many times it didn't result in an upgrade on domestic flights, sometimes even with plus points. For international flights, I typically cleared the upgrades for me and my travel partner, but always used plus points for that.

I guess they didn't want to lose me since they offered me 1k this year even though I only earned gold (maybe platinum, don't remember).

Do u have to be a ****** like their CEO to get the benefits??

Saw on Facebook that if you didn't maintain same status this year compared to last, that they are frequently keeping your status unchanged if you simply call them and ask them. Ugh…

Unless you have significant status, besides free bags and an actual phone number to call, I havent seen a lot of benefit.

It's all been very diluted since COVID.

I recall around 2010 getting frequently upgraded as a silver and gold level. Every other flight it seemed.

I can count on a single hand as a 1k how many upgrades I got last year.

Biggest benefit lately is the direct line to get re-booked when they **** the bed with pilot strikes, mass cancellations, etc. You just won't be on hold as long...

Not worth it in any way. I have status with United and can't remember the last time I was upgraded. The priority check in and boarding is nice, but you could just pay extra for that every time you fly and it still wouldn't come close to the price they want for a status upgrade.

I was gold and they'd only extend me to silver. Barely traveled last year and probably won't enough this year to make gold again. Almost impossible with infrequent domestic only travel

Never had GS. What's the magic number of points/miles/segments/dollars for that?

Its unpublished, but if you prepay for flights through PassPlus you get it. That was $50k but is going to be going to $75k in 2024. 4 million milers also get it for life.

If you actually spend $50k in a year you get it. My boss has had it from 2019 and he isn't spending $50k but quite a bit, but is a 2 million miler on United so that prob helps.

My total was around 70 in 2022. I heard thru a flight attendant the min spend that year was about 40k to 'earn' GS
