Wasn't sure best forum to post. We're eloping in Colorado in June/July and want to make sure we have a good photographer to capture the day. We've found a few people we like, but trying to get an idea what reasonable prices are (as nothing ever seems reasonable when it comes to wedding stuff).

For a photographer that is going to travel within the state of Colorado and willing to hike,etc... what would be considered a reasonable amount for a 4-hour or 8-hour "session"?

My sister-in-law is a photographer and is moving to Colorado in the next few months. She has prices listed on her website.

We did traditional wedding in Denver, so it was getting ready, church wedding, family/bridal party pics at a nearby park and reception. She does tons of elopements around the state as well. You could add on extra time for a vary reasonable fee, I think we did an extra hour or two.

While I wouldn't necessarily go with the most expensive person, I would got with a highly experience person assuming you plan on only getting married once :p. Pics are the one thing I wouldn't skimp on since they'll last forever and we have a friend or two who regret going cheap or someone with minimal experience.

10\10 recommend at least reaching out to her. Even if you just use her as a comp. She's probably slightly on the higher side, but wasn't the most expensive, we met with 3 I think before deciding. I probably wouldn't go with someone more than 1k cheaper than what she comes up with for her day unless you're a gambler.

Thank you, that is super helpful. The person we are looking at is considerably higher than that (4 hour elopement with just one photographer runs $5500), though that does include travel of up to 2 hours and wherever we choose to hike to for pictures.

We've seen her work as she was used on a friend's wedding in Vail so she comes recommended and we liked the pictures she did. And like you said I don't want to skimp, at the same time I want to make sure I'm not overpaying by a couple of grand.

I've had clients use this for destination photography: Flytographer
I know there have been some that have used them for proposals and destination elopements.

No recs for you but some advice. Don't let the price scare you away. If you like her work and have first hand experience from people you know that she's good and isn't shady I'd go that route. You only get married once and don't want to take a risk on your photos sucking or getting scammed over. The extra expense is worth some peace of mind knowing you're getting exactly what you want.

My daughter specializes in wedding photography in Colorado. She lives in Golden. Specializes in outdoor and goes hiking all the time. Class of '20. She would probably give you an Aggie discount!

Check out her webpage, she has her costs listed.

I'll just say that 4 hours of elopement photos vs. a full wedding doesn't really seem like that much different of a work load, to me at least. I'd wager most of their work will be in editing for both those shoots. Add in that there probably isn't much work to be done to all the family type portraits from a traditional wedding vs. the unknowns and elements of outdoor/hiking photos....
