I'm taking my wife to Alinea for dinner for her 40th birthday, and we'll have some time to kill on Friday afternoon / Saturday early afternoon. We're staying in the River North area, but I'm good to venture out. In addition to Alinea on Saturday night we've got a reservation at Girl & the Goat on Friday, and I'm considering skipping breakfast on Saturday to be at Au Cheval when they open for a burger.

Any ideas on ways to kill a few hours that don't involve eating or drinking?

I did a river tour and checked out Willis Tower. Enjoyed both. Magnificent Mile can kill some time.

Second this - will be in Chicago for a business trip March 4th - March 6th. Arriving around dinnertime March 4th and will be occupied 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM March 5th and 9-5 PM March 6th.

Not much time for sightseeing, but plan to see The Willis Tower and the Riverwalk. Looking for good recs on Chicago origin food like deep dish pizza. Would prefer to stay within reasonable distance to the downtown area.

Already consulting yelp reddit and friends but but would appreciate any recs from anyone with any more knowledge of The Windy City.

I would also recommend the Museum of Science and Industry to see the U Boat, and the Field and Shedd Museums are always good.

We love Chicago. Would go back again for the 4th time in 4 years.

Look up Twin Anchors for a true neighborhood Chicago experience.
