Went to Business school at UM (visited Brighton a few times), and I wouldn't have any hesitation staying the night. Novi, Plymouth, Livonia, and Northville are all nice cities as well (and a little closer to the airport FWIW). Dexter and Chelsea are a bit west of AA, but may be more affordable, and certainly have more rural vibes, with nice little downtown areas.
