Warning: Old man rant incoming

Just returned from 7 days in Vegas. Yes, I know 7 days is too long. Our original 4 day trip was extended when we found out some good friends were coming in the day before we were scheduled to leave.

Long story short, Vegas, a town which is an expert at sucking every dollar possible from guests, took it a step further. Most hotels have removed coffee makers and mini fridges from the rooms. Need coffee in the morning? Please visit our several coffee shops in the lobby and casino for a delicious $7 cup of joe. And that's just for plain coffee. If you're like me and visit the CVS and buy water, soft drinks and wine/liquor, they will be at room temp for the duration of your stay. My wife had been alerted to this new development and brought a cheap coffee maker and coffee for our wake me up in the morning. We also brought coffee mugs since only small plastic cups were in the rooms.

Rant over....

Wife had convention in Mandalay Bay and we stayed at New York New York. NYNY rooms were half the price of Mandalay. Recent renovation had made some improvements to NYNY, rooms were nice. Great beds, good pillows, nice counter top with large hole where the fridge used to be.

My one recommendation is go see "O" if you haven't. We have seen most of the Cirque du Soleil shows except O because of the cost. It was worth it.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Man is pissed he had to spend money staying on the strip in Vegas. More news plus the weather at 10.

In Alex Jones conspiracy voice - "This is known"

You already know that anything past 3 days in Vegas is entering the danger zone so I'll let you slide on that.

I usually hit a CVS or something and buy that day's worth of beverages and get some ice to keep cool for drinking in the room, using the sink as my cooler. Some casinos like Resorts World have a nice convenience store that isn't priced too bad for drinks.

The amenities such as a coffee maker are going to vary from property to property.

But yeah, during/post the scamdemic, prices have gone way up and the quality has gone down. But, that's true with pretty much everything, everywhere. I paid $25 for a big beer can (large Stella) when I saw Morrissey at Caesar's Palace in 2021 and the same prices when I saw Ron White at The Mirage in 2023.

Even going out in Houston isn't much better. I paid at least $20 for a large can of Dos Equis when I saw Bad Bunny at Minute Maid Park in 2022.

The entire hospitality/entertainment industry is trying to make up for getting screwed during 2020-2022. Plus inflation.

Heck a draft beer at Whisky a Go Go is $9 now. And that's at a bar that hasn't changed one iota since the 1960s.

Last time I was given a complimentary fridge to keep my "medicine" in.

Rheumatiz medicine.

Vegas is a beatdown. 3 days is too long of a trip.

HOWEVER. Regardless of where you are, don't you dare use the coffee makers in the room.

New development? Good thing your wife got that heads up. It's been at least 15 years since there were coffee makers in strip hotels...

We just saw O this evening and I was bored out of my mind for 95% of it. It is mostly just people prancing around and the mimes were painfully boring.

I am probably in the minority but the two Cirque shows have had me bored to tears. Never again.

stay at a property with a fridge - i won't stay anywhere without - i like you, visit the Walgreens/CVS and buy my drinks. I drink a lot while out, but i pound water in the hotel room and enjoy some beers.

vdara has full kitchenettes. Cosmo has mini fridges. many others have fridges.

On the plus side - walking back from the Bellagio to NYNY there is a Whataburger on the strip now.

At Harrahs now - there is a coffee maker & fridge in the room - literally it's on the floor next to the bed.

I was on a travel agent trip and I told them to NEVER use them when we were touring the room. They were like WHY. I was like anything and everything has been put inside those. NERP. They were horrified.

I have to do 6 days in Vegas every January and I always dread it because it is hell on earth to me. That being said, I stay at the Palazzo or Cosmopolitan and both places have fridges in the rooms. I actually don't know if they have coffee makers because you couldn't pay me enough to use a hotel room coffee maker under any circumstances, so I never look for one.

I've made hotdogs in the coffee maker and grilled cheese sandwiches on the iron

That reminds me of taking care of a patient in the ER one Thanksgiving. Now, I NEVER EVER use the telephone handset.

No, shot show. I imagine the crowd at nans is a little less obnoxious.

Two nights in Vegas is more than enough, unless it is business related.

Stayed in Vegas (at Aria) last November to see U2 at the Sphere for my gf's bday. The only time I have traveled to Vegas that wasn't tied in with some form of convention. I can think of a lot of destinations in the continental US that I'd rather see.

I just got back from 4 days in Vegas.
Bellagio, Picasso for dinner, "O", Jose Andrade's Meats for dinner the next night, Penn and Teller, helicopter to the floor of the Grande Canyon.
Can't say I really cared about a coffee maker in my room.

Group of us are working a VB tourney back to back weekends the last two weekends in March

Two are on a tight budget but want to do some things mid week while we are there. The other three can spend a little more....no one is eating Ramen but not a 5 course dinner either

Myself I am going a day early to do Day 1 of March Madness at a sports book

I know Lotus of Siam is on one day along with one of the guys wants to hit up Pinball Museum during the week

What other things would people do when budget is in order for half the group??

We also are thinking a comedy show and Nata Bargatze is there on weekend after we ref one day

Two of us are trying to get out of the area either Zion or Grand Canyon maybe Valley of Fire State Park for a couple of days

MLife properties have coffee makers in the higher end rooms. I have also heard of people buying a $20 coffee maker and just leaving it behind.

We have been to Vegas many times. I really enjoy Summerlin. Suncoast or Red Rocks are both great casinos for olds like us. Last time we were there they still had $5 and $10 BJ tables at 3:2.

If I went to Yellowstone and complained that I was outdoors the whole time, this board would be like wtf… why'd you go to Yellowstone then?

It'd be a valid response.

That's how I feel about a complaint about the Vegas Strip centered around being SO bothered by overpriced coffee for a few days that you buy your own cheap coffeemaker for your room. The Strip just isn't really for you. Remember that next time you are thinking about going let along extending your trip there.

you can hike all day for cheap at Red Rock, just reserve in advance. go up to Mt. Charleston and Kyle Canyon area and play in the snow if you want, or hike around up there

1. Vegas is not the place to go cheap. In fact, do the opposite or you're missing the point.

2. I would be dead after seven days in Vegas.

Do something closer to this next time. Add golf.

Adding golf would have been the cherry on top. It was my birthday weekend (a big one), so we went all out to have fun.
