Hi Team!

I'm taking two 11 year old boys to Enchanted Rock over Spring Break. It's been 30 years since I've been. Would love recs on where to stay close by and day trip hikes/activities. I remember crawling through some caves years ago and fun stuff like that. Probably not camping.

If you don't already have them, stop what youre doing and get your entrance reservations immediately.

I wouldn't get too technical on the hiking there...just let'em run loose and climb up on whatever rocks they can climb

We usually stay in Fredericksburg - good food, lots of places to stay or camp. The WWII Pacific Theater museum is awesome.

We spent the day at Enchanted Rock when we took our kids around the same age. We packed a picnic and ate lunch near a creek after hiking to the top. We strongly recommend the WWII museum also. Smithsonian quality museum, lots to see and do. We stayed in a VRBO cabin in the woods near Fredericksburg and that was fun.

Longhorn Caverns isn't far from Enchanted Rock. It's a fun tour for kids if you haven't been before.

Fredericksburg's Silver Creek Saloon was once Aggie owned (not sure if that's still the case) but we had a ton of fun there

+1 on Longhorn Cavern. Easy to camp at Inks Lake SP for a weekend and go to LH Cavern one day and Enchanted Rock the other. The rest of the time you can rent a canoe or kayak and go fishing or swimming in the lake.

Colorado Bend State Park has some good hiking trails and is roughly an hour from Enchanted Rock

does Cooper's BBQ in Llano still have those giant outdoor pits? I loved seeing those as a kid (and as an adult also!).
