I haven't planned a trip for the summer just yet. We don't have any clue what is going on with kids' activities so I'm not real sure what to plan.

However, I have two beach lovers and I'm thinking of booking a trip to Cabo. I've never been to Cabo so I have a few questions.

First things first, the two kids are 14 and 15. One loves the beach the other is ho hum when it comes to the beach. How are the beaches in Cabo? I would assume great, but we thought Myrtle Beach would be great and were disappointed.

All-inclusive or no? I'm leaning to all-inclusive as I've been pleased with most that I've been to. I think it's a money saver and if not, at least the money is spent at the beginning and I'm not constantly worried about the bank account.

If all-inclusive, where? The only one I've looked at so far is Hard Rock. It's the first that popped up and seems reasonable but I don't know their reputation.

If not all-inclusive, where? I haven't looked into this at all so I'm open to whatever is recommended.

The beaches can be narrow and drop fairly quickly to water. Unless they are specifically built/maintained at a super resort, they aren't what I'd consider tame wading beaches.

Someone on here recommend Villa Estancia and it was fantastic. You can also make a short drive to some nicer restaurants doen the way.

Having said that I find Cabo to be a hodge podged mess. I've had more enjoyable trips out to Tulum and Cozumel. That being said, I understand Tulum is a **** show these days.

In general, if you want beach lounging, go to the Caribbean side. If you want fishing or surfing, go to the pacific side. I love Cabo. Watching the whales breach while in the pool sipping cocktails is, well, fantastic, for lack of better words.

The beautiful white sand beaches of Cancun are awesome. Lots of big family resorts with lots for kids to do. Easy to get overwhelmed by all the options. Ask the pro's because all the website pictures look great. Pro's know which ones are really great.

Most resorts you cannot get into the ocean in Cabo. Many resorts don't even have loungers. Hard Rock they wouldn't even let me get close enough to see where the water mat the sand. My vote is no to Cabo if they like the beach.

In my opinion there are more things for the kids to do at the resorts in Cancun/Riviera Maya and Punta Cana.

Grand at Moon Palace is great but the water is brown. Hard Rock Riviera Maya has a beach but it's portioned off with no waves, so it's not great. But they have a water park. Dreams Playa Mujeres and Hyatt Ziva (not Ziva Cancun) have great beaches.

Dreams Onyx. Dreams Macao and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana are great options in the DR

Fiesta Americana is where you want to go for Cabo. If I'm remembering correctly, there's an area that's swimmable there, like a bit of a cove. We've been taking our kids since they were teens.

Thanks for the recs.

I'll keep an eye here for other recommendations but maybe we'll look at the Caribbean.

I would personally avoid Cabo all together if your focus is a great beach/ocean activities

As much as i love Cabo, i would have to agree unless you are willing to a bit north and stay in Cabo San Jose. That is where all the surfers hang out and the beaches/waters are safe

I'm literally sitting on the beach in Cabo right now and I cannot get my 8, 12 and 13 year old boys out of the water.

Stay here on Medano Beach if want sun and sand. Infinity edge pool, sand showers and beach setups. Full kitchens and can hit up WalMart for food and booze. Easy access to the Marina on foot as well.

Looks like it booked for our "dates" although we still have no clue what our summer schedule is. I'll check back and see if I can make something work.

We loved Cabo but the hotel made us sign an agreement to not get in the water. I much prefer the arid climate on that side than Playa and/or Cancun's humidity. Really just depends on what you're wanting to do beach wise. We stayed at Nobu in Cabo.

Yes, Nobu is on the Pacific side and you definitely cannot swim there.

We're a big fan of casa dorada. It's also on Medano Beach.
