Hi all,

I am traveling to Dallas for a work conference next week. I have been on the East Coast for 20+ years. Have been back to Dallas (grew up in East Texas and lived in DFW for 5+ years after college) to visit family periodically. I am not very familiar with all of the new places and would love to take some of my colleagues out. I have a reservation for one of the three nights at The Henry- went here twice when home and like the atmosphere. I would love some recommendations for good Mexican places- more high end. We are staying downtown. We don't mind Ubering, but probably need to stay inside 635. Any other "don't miss" places to hang with a large group for drinks are also appreciated. If it would be better to post this on the Metroplex forum, feel free to let me know. I don't post a lot.

Javiers, definitely.

You'll need a reservation but it's well worth it.

Get the grilled quail appetizer.

Make a reservation for the cocktails, too - if you can. Sounds like you're on top of that part though.

I don't know that there's any place in Dallas that's can't miss for cocktails, buuuutttttt if you're gonna be going out anyway…

My rec would be to consider the hotel bars in downtown. They'll be more upscale and are likely to have space for a large group.
- Midnight Rambler at The Joule - I wouldn't rec this spot without a reservation for a large group bc it's risky otherwise since it's not a big place.
- Waterproof at the Statler Hotel - rooftop bar on the 19th floor, reservations required but easy to make. Great views, food menu available.
- Virgin Hotel bar - in the Design District which is about a 10 min max Uber ride out of downtown, but great decor.

If you want more casual / relaxed,
- Dot's Hop House - big space, lots of room, outdoor patio, cornhole games
- Double Wide - quirky

What did you decide? How was it?

We ended up at Las Palmas and the drinks afterwards at Bowen House. It as very good. I was surprised that Javier's was still around. I thought I recalled it had closed. That was one of our favorites back in the day. I'll definitely put that on the list when my husband and I go back for a visit. We enjoyed The Henry(dinner and drinks on the rooftop) and Sixty Vines as well. My only disappointment was how dirty everything was around the Convention Center and hotels. The homeless situation seems much worse than I ever remembered and there was trash everywhere. Very sad. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.
