Taking the wife to her first NYC trip and she wants to see a show on Broadway. I probably haven't been to one in 10ish years and the last couple times, local friends got the tix.

I searched around but couldn't find a "best way to snag tickets" thread.

I remember doing TKTS way back in the day. But isn't that basically a wake up early and stand in line with no guarantees type situation? Willing to shell out more money to avoid that if needed.

She's not dead set on any one show, so plenty of flexibility. Plenty of websites out there, curious if anyone has some good recs.

I always buy ahead of time on the website of the show but I know what I want to see ahead of time.

I believe TKTS now has an app and you don't have to wait in line any longer but don't quote me on that.

If you aren't dead set on a particular show I recommend hanging around the area (there's a cool bar close by) and buying tickets 45ish minutes before the show starts. We did this several years ago for Hamilton and got second row seats for less than $150 each. I don't recall the app we used but I am sure there are several. We would just refresh and ticket prices just kept dropping leading up to the show.

I usually buy ahead directly from the show's website. However when I find myself with time to kill and just want to fit a show in last-minute, todaytix.com has always been great.

We went to NYC in June 2018 and wanted to see a Broadway show, but weren't picky about which one. I looked online ahead of time, but we decided to do the last minute tickets you referenced above. We went to the location in Lincoln Center that morning on our way to Central Park and they had great seats to about 8-10 different shows available. We only had to wait about 10 minutes tops. We ended up getting seats 4th row dead center for less than the cost of the cheapest seats in the house if I had purchased in advance/ directly from the theater. The show ended up being very full (School of Rock- Winter Garden theater) and we had a great time. If you aren't particular about which show, this may be the way to go to save a lot of money and get amazing seats. Not sure about an app now, but that would make it even easier.

I think the wife only has 1 or 2 she really wants to see. So it's probably gonna have to be purchased ahead of time. I'd rather pay more vs risk missing out on the specific shows.

I'll def keep those in mind for future visits though.

My daughter lives in Manhattan. She probably goes to a show once a week or so. She likes to run, so she just runs by the theaters and checks what they have available for that night. She says she gets great deals that way. I asked what time she checks and she said around 10am. So, if you are not picky about what you see, this might work.

I know this is not on topic, but she says using the boats to get around when you can is also nice. She says better views and smaller crowds are her main motivations.
