How does the insurance work with airbnb. Literally the first time I used it for a quick trip to Crystal Beach and luckily bought the insurance that covers natural disasters. Galveston Mayor is claiming 72 hours to 2 weeks before they're back and right now no one is allowed in. We're supposed to arrive Thur and leave Sunday. Do I cancel and file the claim or not cancel and file? Maybe the host funds 100% back but I haven't asked yet.

Bigger picture, T&p for those truly affected. My deal is grossly inconsequential compared to the impact this has on the property owners.

See if there is a number to call for the insurance portion. I canceled mine today but I was within the 48 free cancellation window. We are supposed to go end of the month.

But I wouldn't cancel without talking to insurance company. They will provide the guidelines if the host doesn't cancel.

Ask your host. I had a condo rented in South Padre for July 5-9 (Beryl was supposed to make landfall on SPI on the 7th), and I asked the host if she would refund my trip since I didn't want to put my family in potential danger. She understood and gave me a full refund on July 4th. We had no trip insurance.

My VRBO host refunded our last night without me even having to ask (Port A, night of Sat July 6th)

As a host, we would always do that before the trip. No matter when you pay the rental, Air BnB does not pay the host until 24 hours after check in, so if you cancel before, the host is not having to actually send money back, they are just losing a booking. But it would take a pretty jerk host to say no in the face of a hurricane.

But also know that the host is going to likely ask you to cancel the reservation, even if it is outside of the cancellation policy window. They can still approve a refund, but you're going to have to trust them. The reason is because if the host cancels, it messes with their rating. They lose "super host" eligibility, for 6 months, for example, and that really does matter.

I have a place at Crystal Beach. I book direct, and I refunded my guest. I need somebody for this coming week, 7/21 - 7/24.

If you like it, shoot me an email. Atm94unc98 at the google

My place is 3rd row. I was there. It was pretty fun. Kingwood got it was worse. Power was out at the beach for 4 days. We got it back in KW after 8. We're kinda lucky too. Crystal Beach was way better off than Jamaica or Surfside.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
