Has anybody chartered a boat and a Captain to cruise the Intercoastal Waterway?

If so, how do we plan it? Charter Companies? Travel agent?

Any recommendations will be helpful to get started.

I'm checking to see if there are any vendors we can work with that do this. The one company I had in mind does not do the US, just the Caribbean.

My brother in law bought a 40+' Bertrum in Louisiana and went to Corpus Christi. I believe it was around three days for the trip and tying up at night.

Use to be a company out of NOLA that ran a deck barge outfitted with RV hookups. This was years ago. Assume by now federal regulators might've found some way to put 'em out of business.

Milkman- I'm reading that it could take 3-4 months to travel the whole thing.
I'm just in the beginning of researching this trip, so I don't know what we're going to do yet?

Epic thread on the OB about this. Was titled 'Any other loopers', or something similar. Fairly recent too.

I've always wanted to do a crossing to Key West, but not the loop. Hmmmm..

You could rent a houseboat and do it yourself, I would think. You could time the bays you have to cross with the waves. CC Bay, Matagorda, Mississippi Sound, Mobile Bay, Escambia Bays would be the hard ones in a houseboat. The traffic between Galveston and NOLA would be a challenge.

The locks on the Mississippi would be a challenge, especially with the current in the river.

My cousin brought a boat from NOLA to Palacios and stayed in the ditch. He said the worst part was NOLA to Morgan City.

I thought that sounded awesome, so I hit Google.

You are correct, regulations put them out of business

Passed by these a couple times riding the river and going through the locks. Memaw and pepaw waiving at you from their lawn chairs. Looked like fun though except for it being surface of the sun hot from heat radiating off the deck of that barge. Wild times. Fun police got em though.
