Flying overnight IAH -Frankfurt. I don't want to spend $1000 on a mini cpap that I will only use once, or twice, a year.

Looked at renting a machine. Can rent a Transcend for around $148/month

Then I got to thinking, my seat has ac power. Could I use my regular machine on the flight. I have a ResMed 9 which is rather bulky, but it should work.

Cpap travelers. What has been your experience on long flights. Do you use a portable, or your regular machine?
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I'm an Airsense user and have gone through the same mental exercise. If needed, I'd bring mine and use it in my seat. I always keep mine with me in my carry-on or my backpack if I check a bag. My thinking is buying some velcro straps/rubber bands to attach to it to keep it in place as well as manage the power cord and hose so it's not interfering with other passengers.

I'm about to do a sleep study in the next month or so since my last one was a while ago. My plan is to ask them to prescribe the AirMini instead of the Airsense.

Watching this thread also. I use a Phillips Resparonics. However, I think I just will book Polaris seating for my night leg and plug my ol' girl in and sleep tight.

What is the wattage on your power supply?

I've learned with my laptop power supplies over the years that most of the in-seat power options will support a 60W load but will not support a 90W charger.

The real sucky thing (in my experience) is that once you plug your 90W charger in, it trips the circuit breaker and you're stuck without power for the rest of the flight.

Also, 6 degrees of separation and all, I've done IT work at Resmed in Norwest, Sydney, Australia.

Besides the Boomerang, this is one of only 4 major inventions that Australia is known for (and they claim a 5th - WiFi but I'm not so sure about that). Others are:
  • Rotary Washing Line (Hills Hoist)
  • Half-car Half-truck "Ute" (think Chevrolet El Camino / Ford Ranchero)

Yup. Just checked my power supply and it's 90W

Guess I'll rent a portable machine for the trip

Wouldn't the Model T be the first Ute? Car or truck options for the same vehicle.

I've used mine multiple times in United Polaris crossing the pond and then once domestically in coach on a red-eye from west coast back to Houston and had no issues. I have the Resmed Airsense 11 and is appears when they went from 10 to 11 the power supply did drop from 90W to 60W. Didn't even think about potentially blowing the breaker at my seat.

First is easy but even in coach it wasn't bad. I just sat the unit between my feet on the ground n(no water added and turn that feature off so heater didn't come on) and kept just enough of the hose in front of me so I didn't end up strangling someone else with it!

I'm guessing the distinction is not the shared chassis but rather the shared interior.

If you ride in a Ford Falcon Ute, it has the same interior as a Four Door, Ford Falcon Sedan.

Mine is a 90W. Just booked Polaris seating for my trip across the pond. I'm gonna eat a big meal, have a few cocktails, then lights out.

Why not buy backup power for it? After the megafreze in Central Texas years ago with rolling power outages, I was committed to doing that. Maybe the power on the plane is sufficient.

With you... I wouldn't buy a travel CPAP. I travel with one of mine.

My wife is a Russian historian, so I see a bit of Cyrillic, which doesn't help.
