Our kids have spring break from March 8-16, and we want to take them skiing for the first time. Where would you go if flying out of Houston? We will rent AirBNB wherever we go, ideally ski in/out or close to a shuttle stop that drops you at gondola. Help please--would like to book ASAP. Thank you in advance!

Steamboat Springs or one of the Utah resorts. I'd expect Utah to be more affordable; able to fly into large airport in SLC and there are many resort options there to shop between. I haven't skied enough in Utah to give a rec on which specific one(s) to choose.

Pay close attention to who has been getting good snow, it has been a rough year for many places. I imagine BayouCity/JustPanda will chime in on this thread, he stays pretty up to date on conditions across CO and UT. A lot can happen between now and spring break, but if you choose a place that has already had a good snow year you'll have better odds of good conditions in March.

Whitefish in Montana is our favorite. For one it's considerably cheaper than other places. You can book lodging through the mountain and get discounted even more lift tickets.

I am happy to answer any questions about there, we're heading back there this year for our fourth year in a row. Also a much lower summit if you're prone to altitude sickness.

Just looked at Whitefish website and the Evergreen cabin is ski in ski out and available that week.

I'm pretty sure United flies nonstop to Kalispell from IAH.

Edit - no non stops from Houston

Thank you all. I'm shocked that airfare for Bozeman, SLC, and even Denver are all nearly $1000 per person that week. I could literally fly to London for that. Insane.

What are the ages of your kids? A much smaller place is Granby Co, they have great ski school and a lot of options for ski in/ ski out. Also you are 20 min from Winter Park to enjoy snow tubing. This is the place my kids learned to ski and I loved because it was not crazy busy.

Tahoe, Sun Valley, Bachelor, Whistler, Ski 3, PC, DV... Your criteria filters the list to about 50 or so resorts.

Spring break is one of the most popular times of year to ski (and busy for traveling in general). I've always found flights to be very expensive in March.

Level of skiers? Expectations on amenities? Ease of travel/travel restrictions? Price point?

What You described provided no real ability to give info other than not NM.

We pull the kids out of school and go before SB for this very reason. Going next week. Paid $240 RT per ticket to Steamboat.

I just booked a client to Whistler BC and got a really nice rate with the Westin in the village. A one bedroom suite with small kitchen for a family of 4 for around $3K for 6 nights during spring break isn't bad at all.
I'm not sure how the flights were since they client booked those on his own.

Lift tickets, equipment rentals, lessons, etc are all cheaper than the states for sure from what I'm seeing.

We're going back to Park City in February and I've found it's a little bit cheaper than Colorado places overall. I love the easy access from SLC airport to Park City.

Beaver Creek is really nice albeit a bit pricy. Super easy access with direct flights from Houston to Eagle County Regional Airport.

Budget and ages of kids? I'm a fan of Summit County (Breck, A-Basin, Copper Mtn) but Spring Break is crazy and the drive from Denver sucks. If possible, check out Telluride (fly into Montrose). Awesome village, great ski school. A few years ago we were there through Christmas and New Year's and lift lines were nothing like those in Summit County.

*I've only skied in CO an NM so can't comment on the other suggestions which sound awesome.
