FAA has asked the airlines to implement a10% reduction at 40 major airports starting Friday due to ATC staffing. I got an email from AA this morning.

Glad I'm flying today. Everything was fine so far at BWI.

I got a notice from United though. I have a trip in he first week of December. Sounds like they are going to cut regional flights.

Got to get to East Tennessee on Sunday from CS through DFW. I would think they'd cut the small regional flights first right? Really don't want to have to make that drive...

regionals and high frequency routes (DFW-LAX, DFW-ORD for example on AA)

yes - seems they are going to cut regionals and maintain flights between hubs.

I'm flying to Mexico this afternoon for a long weekend. I'm wondering if this will have any impact our return flight on Sunday. The notice I received from United said that long haul international flights are not impacted by this, but I assume Mexico isn't considered long haul. LOL

I knew it. Dammit. HOU is already a ****show for SWA and we are supposed to be flying out of there first week of December.

We may actually cancel our trip. It's way too expensive a trip to risk getting f'ed here. Actually have until the 27th before we have to cancel.

Which makes sense. Our flight is a feeder flight from CRP so good chance ours gets cut.

I think international flights are protected. This is primarily going to impact regional airports and feeder flights into hubs. You should be good.

At least for United, their update says hub-to-hub and long-haul international not impacted (not sure what qualifies for long-haul)

FYI - I called United regarding an upcoming flight. They're currently offering flight change waivers for flights 7-13th. Wouldn't have been applicable for my flight date so didn't get into details of the waiver. But fyi for those that may need to change with flights those dates.

Sounds like next week could be brutal regardless of how many flights are cancelled by the FAA, some of the ground stoppage delays at the big airports this weekend are passing 4-5 hours.

I'm supposed to travel the first week of December. I haven't booked anything yet because I don't know what will even be working.

SWA LAS to HOU yesterday and HOU to CRP today no issues. First flight completely full and second flight has 40 people on it. Security was fast and easy at all airports. Hope it's just being over hyped but Goodluck to those with upcoming travel

Good to hear as CRP to HOU is my primary way in and out of our locale. Hope it holds for first week of December, but my confidence in that HOU to CRP leg is low because of exactly what you posted.

SWA will pull that plane in a heartbeat if that load factor stays consistently around that number and put it somewhere with higher demand in a forced cut situation like this.

We were on the 8:30 flight this morning back from Cancun to IAH. I wonder if we were on the same flight?!

There were no issues getting back and no wait at all going through Global Entry.

About 36% of nation-wide flights are delayed today. Gross.

This isn't gonna get resolved anytime soon it appears even if funding is approved this week. I saw something where it said 10 to 15 ATC controllers have retired everyday during this fiasco.

Despite the government shutdown expected to come to a close, travelers should still brace for delays and cancellations in the coming days.
"I would expect really bumpy operations and pretty brutal travel experiences, at least throughout the week," said Tiffany Funk, co-founder and president of point.me, which specializes in points-based travel. "Even if funding were magically restored today, this is going to take a long time to reset."
