If you have spent any time in Cajun country, what are must-sees in these towns? Places to eat? Preferences for one town over another for an extended weekend? TIA

In Morgan City there used to be a restaurant just about under the bridge that was an old house. The lady that ran the place was mean as an old swamp cat, but the food was amazing. Can't find it on apple maps, but maybe it's still there.

If you stay in New Iberia you could pop down to Avery Island and do the Tabasco touristy stuff there. Some of it is kitschy but I think it is a neat place with quite a bit of history.

Rip Van Winkle Gardens just north of Avery Island has a great restaurant that serves lunch also a short film showing the salt dome collapse when an oil company drilling in the lake put a hole in the dome. They also have a tour of the mansion there with the history of the property. A lot of history there.

We enjoyed seeing Avery Island, and would recommend to anyone who finds themselves in the area and needs a way to kill a few hours.

Fremin's Restaurant over in Thibodaux is excellent. One of the best meals I've had in Louisiana.

Traveled in and out of New Iberia for work for years. Small town and everyone knows everybody. I loved the simpleness of it. Anyways, my personal favorite eateries:

R&M Boiling Point - Known for their crawfish, boiled shrimp and boiled crab.
Bon Creole - Hole in the wall, but known for their over the top Po-Boys
Billeaud's Too - Open only for breakfast and lunch. Its in a gas station but the food is great.
Duffy's Diner - Best Fried Chicken in town
