For those who live in central Texas and like to visit/dive the Caymans, Cayman Airways will be running summer non-stops between Austin and GC on Sundays from May 24th to August 16th this summer. Will be interesting to see their pricing, but I predict that United fares through IAH and AA fares through Dallas to GC are about to get really cheap. They will do their best to make the route unprofitable like Continental and TACA did when Sol started flying non-stops from IAH to Roatan, Honduras in the late 90s.

Looks like fares are very reasonable. I pulled up an Aug 9-16 RT and had $872 for 2 adults or $436 pp. Unfortunately it is a late arrival into GCM on Sunday (3:45pm) and a very early departure out of GCM (8:15am), so I can't make it work for a 7 day trip to Little Cayman or Cayman Brac because you can't get connecting flights that work. You would have to fly back over to GC Saturday evening, which means no diving Sat morning. Going to LC, your last flight on Sunday leaves at 2:45pm from GC, so there is no connection on the way in.

So it looks great for folks just going to GC, but not so much for trips to the Sister Islands.

I noticed that also. Plus, the Tibbits resorts on LC and CB like you to come and go on turnaround Saturday.

That is their preference for sure, but I have found them to be pretty flexible if you tell them you can't get a saturday Cayman Express flight that works with your GC arrival time. The United flight from IAH in low season used to get to GC around 3:25 or 3:30, so the only flights to LC you could catch were the 4:45 or 5:10 twin otter flights. Those fill up the fastest, so they were usually willing to do a friday to friday or sunday to sunday if we asked nicely and told them about the lack of flights available.

I've done Wednesday to Wednesday with them during the low season. Again, that's no help for these flights.

However, you can sure do a "quick and dirty" dive trip to Sunset House on these flights! And grab a return on Untied or American.

I like Cayman Airways as an airline and was hoping the flight times would work out. But I have a bunch of miles on United and SWA, so I will just keep using those. Hopefully these Cayman Airways flights will have a downward influence on those fares.
