I'm considering taking my 15 year old baseball-playing son to Surprise AZ during part of Spring Break. For some Texas Rangers spring baseball. Anyone have any feedback on that trip? Father - son experiences? Considering now and also looking at a quick ski trip.

You won't regret spring training. And once you go once you'll want to go every year. Surprise is a little bit of a suburban he|| , so stay somewhere nicer and only go to one game in Surprise and others elsewhere.

Plus there's no snow in the west. It's a perfect season for baseball instead.

Surprise is a long drive unless you just want to see the Rangers at "home." The east side is where it's at. Scottsdale or Tempe would be a better home base and you'd have five stadiums within a short drive. I used to live a block from Scottsdale Stadium and Giants games. I'd stay in that area or in Tempe with the Cubs.

And the rangers home swag merchandise is shockingly bad and limited, or has at least been that way the last three years. But if you go to surprise go early enough to wonder around before the game when you can see all the players , get autographs, etc. I have fond memories of showing my kids Adolis Garcia taking cuts in the batting cage . It was an OMG moment.

Arizona has had a lot of snow. Snowbowl is in good shape and expecting snow this week.

Go to the Rangers practice facility for their free morning practice around 9am, and you'll see at least some starters up close, including autographs if you want em. Lots of venues to see games, and the Rangers / Royals and Athletics are definitely lower priced. You'll need a jacket when in the shade and sunscreen when not. ASU may also be in town if you want a college ball experience.

Was up there last weekend and it was pretty bad. They got 15" Thu-Fri, so it is better, but I wouldn't call it good. If they get the expected 2' this week then it'll be in good shape. I'm planning to go back up on Sunday, so fingers crossed.

Good to know. Friends were up there recently and were pretty pleased.
