Looking at a summer trip, Nantucket is going to be a for sure stop, trying to decide if we should also stay at another spot such as Martha's Vineyard or Chatham, MA/Cape Cod or just day trip those.

Any recs for hotels on Nantucket? Will be with wife and mother-in-law so I think priority is walkable restaurants and shopping. I really like the looks of the Wauwinet but it's a trek into town and pricey, might split up the trip and do a couple days there.

On Martha's any opinions on Oak Bluffs vs. Edgartown to visit? Appears the ferry from Nantucket goes into Oak Bluffs.

Does Chatham have much of a walkable downtown the way Nantucket does, or is it more of a spot where you need to bike or have a car?

At the moment I'm leaning to just staying in Nantucket and ferrying over to the other spots for day trips so we don't have to pack up and completely move.

Without knowing how long the trip is, my top choice would be to stay on Nantucket and just day trip. If you do want to split time I would do Nantucket for a few nights with a day trip to MV and then move to Cape Cod (Chatham). Nantucket and MV will feel pretty similar.

Nantucket hotel recommendations within walking distance of town:
- The Brant
- 21 Broad
- White Elephant
- Greydon House

The Wauwinet is incredible, perhaps a few nights here on the back end of the trip when you're ready to relax a bit more? (if you stay on Nantucket the whole time)

Chatham is less compact, parts of it are walkable but you'll likely want a car. Favorite hotels are Wequassett Resort and Chatham Bars Inn.

Happy to answer questions or help with the trip if you're looking for it.

Thanks, that's very helpful. Any experience with the Jared Coffin House Inn? It's the same family as the White Elephant and Wauwinet, price and location are ideal.

Not directly, but it's well regarded in our internal review system.

I think it just comes down to a style preference. I lean more modern as have most of my clients in that area.

The Whaling Museum in Nantucket is an absolute must! Also, I strongly recommend you take the 'high speed' ferry as you can get to your next destination much faster. It's more expensive than the conventional ferry, but it's pretty neat (they're catamarans) and twice as fast (as I recall).

You will love Nantucket.

I had clients stay at Chatham Bars Inn and had a wonderful time earlier this month.

I do think it would be best if you had a rental car. My clients did not (their choice). Transfers are pretty darn pricey. But you could visit several areas having a rental car in Cape Cod.
