Going to England for a 4 day tour and staying in a hotel there, then to France for a week long river cruise to Normandy. How many pounds and euros would be needed for hotel tips and such? Will primary use credits cards and meals are provided on the cruise and breakfast provided on London portion. Not sure we will need much. Am I missing something?

England:

- Porters/Bellhops: 1-2 pounds per bag.
- Housekeeping: 1-2 pounds per day, generally left at the end of the stay.
- Concierge: 5-10 pounds for special services (e.g., hard-to-get restaurant bookings).

France, the same thing, just euro instead of pound.

I brought 100 pounds and 100 euros on a similar trip and had a hard time getting rid of all of it. Eventually sold 60 pounds back at my bank, albeit my son found 40 pounds on the ground by the London Eye. So I guess we spent all but the original 20.

I typically bring a little cash even though I know we can get it cheaper at ATMs, but I'm always worried we'll get there and something will go wrong and I need a little cash ASAP.

That said, I NEEDED cash for absolutely nothing. Everything there uses tap to pay. The number of times I actually pulled out a credit card is a small number over 14 days.
