How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm taking my 8th grade daughter to visit Texas A&M and BCS this weekend. I was thinking of taking her to Dixie Chicken to eat, then maybe the GB Library. Maybe the MSC. She is a piano player, so I might take her to the MSC section where the piano was if it still exists.

Possibly go to a baseball game, but she is not a big baseball fan.

I am ashamed to admit I have not been back for at least 20 years. Maybe since 99 graduation.

Just looking for some suggestions so she has a great experience.

Post this in the general or Aggieland forum. You are going to be shocked by all of the growth and changes if you haven't been back since 99.

To prime you for what to expect…

The area immediately surrounding campus, particularly Northgate, is unrecognizable from the last time you saw it. Expect high rise apartments and dining/retail that is more in line with what you expect in affluent parts of larger Texas cities. In some ways it's a change for the better, as the development has replaced some ratty old properties that needed to go, but Northgate now has a decidedly urban feel, which is probably off-putting to some old Ags. The rest of College Station doesn't feel all that different, aside from the suburban sprawl at the fringes of town.

To answer your specific question, yes there is still a piano in the Flag Room.

Whoa, sounds like I will be blown away by the mixed use. Some of the places I remember were old and ratty like you said, but there was a character and a feel to Northgate back then. It sounds like I might get lost in a town I could drive around blindfolded back then.

You won't get lost, but on campus especially you'll keep saying to yourself "gee, don't remember that 8 story building there, used to be a parking lot."

For a surreal experience walk into Zachry and try to rectify current state with how you remembered it in 99.

I highly recommend walking Aggie (Spence Park) Park if you are going to the MSC. The gardens over on west campus behind the AgriLife buildings is also really pretty. Century Square is fun and has a lot of shops and restaurants plus a candy store, movie theater, and green space. Parking is free in the garage all the time or free for the surface spaces on Sundays. Downtown Bryan is also fun. There are several cute stores and restaurants to go to down there and Blackwater Draw brewing is down there and is family and dog friendly and has a food truck and board games. The GB library is cool and make sure to go to the addition where they now have the helicopter and train car. There is also a dining spot in there run by one of our local chefs. If y'all need entertainment we still have Grand Station but we also have Big Shots and putt putt. Hope yall have a great visit!

In regards to the baseball game. It's NCAA postseason, so tickets won't be easy to come by nor very cheap. It'll be an awesome experience, for sure, and I'll likely be coming up for it. But unless you're into baseball, I'd probably skip it as just a way to pass time and show the campus.

LOL, will do on Zachry. I majored in Civil Engineering, so I was in the building countless times. Sounds like it will be a trip.
