there are only three things that are keeping me away from Texas:

1: MONEY- thats the biggie. That's why I am almost 42 years old and still have to live with my parents.

2: Weather. Texas gets atrociously hot and humid during the summer. Just TRY taking your shirt off at night before bedtime and not have it be sopping wet and sticking to you like a second skin.

3: bees. Though the africanized "killer" bees really dont seem to be as bad as everyone first thought. I mean the very first reports about them coming to texas were so dire they made it sound like everyone would be stung to death immediately. Semms to not be the case so thats why this is a distant third but it still bothers me

The wife took me away for residency. However, I have enjoyed my experience quite a bit. A few of the random things I've learned:

  • Regarding cost of living, there is cheap and then there is Texas.
  • Not everything is bigger in Texas. For example, what we Texans consider trees and rivers are shrubs and creeks elsewhere.
  • While it isn't brisket, pulled BBQ pork is pretty darn tasty.
  • Texans aren't the worst drivers out there.
  • State and local income tax sucks big time.
  • We can live without access roads.
  • 50 degrees isn't cold.
  • There are darn good people everywhere in our great land.

I'm ready to get back to Texas (in 5 to 17 months, depending on her job prospects), but it has been a good and enlightening four years.

Florida beaches don't have seaweed and syringes washing ashore, a la Corpus and Galveston.

60% more money than job in Tx. Would have never left otherwise and Tx will be home after retirement.

Definitely MONEY! But, when you take the added cost of living outside TX... TX is probably more economical. But it's cool making six figures before the age of 30 none-the-less. Only prob is it costs $500k for a decent house.

You go where the job is, or in my case, where my husband's job is. I'll always be a Texan in my heart, but I've found happiness here as well.

I lived in Marlin (for the first year of my life), Temple (briefly as a kid), Cameron and B-CS. I'm not far from you in LaVergne! Sorry that you hate it here... I've grown to love it, with more friends here then I ever had before. A couple of which I met thanks to A&M game watching parties! I miss my family and Texas, of course, but I'm happy here too.

1984Consol- The problem is you are in the wrong part of the state....!

East TN is pretty cheap to live in. House insurance is 1/2 or more less than equivilant in Angelo. Property Taxes are half or more less than Tom Green Co.

With that all said, I only came for the money. I miss making all football games in Kyle and my friends, but for 10 yrs or so, I can enjoy a different part of the country.

Where you live is what you make of it.
