Hi we are moving to colorado springs, where is the good skiing in colorado? kids and i are beginners and husband is awesome. we are also military so any good discounts. thanks

The Rocky Mountains are a good place to start, but seriously, I have always liked Winter Park, about 90miles from Denver, 3 good sized mountains and doesn't have that "uppity" Aspen feel. Ski school is supposed to be good also.

Winter Park/Mary Jane or any of the mountains in Summit County (Breckenridge, A-Basin, Keystone or Copper) are a good place to start in Colorado. From the springs they are about 140 miles.

As for military discount, I don't think they have one but I'm not in the military so I don't know for certain.

The last time I skied Breckenridge - '62 to '64 time frame- there was only one t-bar open. Has it changed much? I cut my skiing teeth at A Basin.

kinda, we are moving from San Antonio to join the Ft. Hood boys, very excited about moving to CO but sad leaving SA/ Aggieland (hopefully football will be played at CO, havent seen schedule)

Boulder/ CU is to Colorado what Austin /tu is to Texas. It is worse though. Much more liberal. The Springs is nice. Lots of things to see and do.

Aggie Football will be in Boulder to BTHO CU on Nov 7 this year. There will be a weekend of events put on by the Denver Texas A&M club in conjunction with The Association. Stay tuned on details to come available this summer. Check out denveraggies.com for up to date info!

Excellent, being stationed at different places is exciting but the hardest part is wondering what Aggie game we can watch live and what conference we will be forced to watch on tv, thanks so much for the info

You'll love the Rockies! So many outdoor things to do all year. The big ski resorts I can think of with my opinions:

Vail : The best, back bowls are amazing! Snooty people, a little farther away
Aspen : Haven't been, even farther away
Beaver Creek : Close to Vail, also nice but not quite as good
Breckenridge : Pretty good and cheaper, but very crowded every time I've been
Keystone : Best bang for your buck that I've been to, fairly large area with small crowds
A-Basin : Small, slow lifts, but open the longest. Probably not a good place to learn
Loveland : Never been, but looks similar to A-Basin
Copper Mtn : Pretty nice, only been one day
Winter Park : Never been
Steamboat Springs : Never been, but supposed to be nice

This last season I got a 5 mtn pass (Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Keyston, A-Basin) for about $400. They also sell 4-packs to Keystone/A-Basin for about $100. Yes, it's an expensive pastime. You also have to figure in the cost of clothes, rentals, and gas. My advice : bring your lunch.

Five mountain passes do not exist anymore. you either have to go for a colorado pass or the epic pass. Personally I prefer the epic pass because it has no blackout dates and no restrictions on the number of alternate ski days. The colorado pass only gives you 10 days at beaver creek and vail, the 2 mountains that often get the best snow and are the least icy.
