Looks like the family will be uprooted from California in the next few months and move to the Ogden, Utah area. I was wondering if anyone knew of the best places to live in and around the Odgen area. Thanks.

Can't help you with places to live but I visit Ogden monthly for work. It's a gorgeous area and the people are very nice.

Utah is beautiful and the people are very friendly. The state is about 2/3 Mormon. I am not Mormon and have friends that are and they are great people. However they can be a little clannish sometimes. If you are Mormon not a problem and if you do not have kids not that big of a deal either as you can easily find a mixture of friends. It can be hard on kids though as the schools can be 85-90 percent Morman.

I visit Ogden about monthly as well (the wife likes Target and Babies R Us) since we live in Logan which is about 45 minutes north of Ogden. Yes, Utah is 2/3 mormon but Ogden is sort of like the "diverse" city of Utah. Meaning they actually have diversity there and it's less mormon. There's a minor league baseball team, Ogden Raptors, that occasionally have Aggies playing for them (we've gotten Parker Dalton's and Brian Ruggiano's autograph).

The university (Weber State) area looks nice and there's skiing nearby. I don't know the area well enough to say where to live and what not but the closer you live to the mountains, the nicer it will be and more expensive. There may be some "rough" parts of town so it would be good to ask around the locals to get more of an idea of what you want.

I am stationed at Hill AFB that borders Ogden. Where you work will deterine the best area to live. Layton-Ogden area is very nice. 4 ski resorts within 30mins with great mountains. Also make sure you go to antelope island and see the Buffalo that roam there in the wild.

If you work north of the base.. I actually recommend gettng a house in Roy.. lower tax and great school district. If you work south of the base try Layton or Syracuse. Really can't go wrong either way. The reason i mention the base.. is that their is only one real road going north to south.. and the morning and afternoon traffic jams are a pain in the rear.. want to stay away from them if possible.
