I've been to OKC and Norman. Wasn't too crazy about the parts of OKC I saw. Been to Tulsa once and it seemed okay. Otherwise, I don't know much about the state. Oklahoma people please share your opinions.

I like Edmond enough, but my question would be why move to OK? Do you have a job here or just looking to live it up?

Just remember the old Aggie joke...."did you hear about the Aggie that moved to Oklahoma and raised the IQ of both states?"

Not looking for an immediate move. Just doing a periodic brainstorm about where I might move if I ever left Houston and/or Texas.

I would not move to a majority Democrat state. It turns out Oklahoma is the most Republican state in America based upon presidential election results going back to the 1960's. Moreso than Texas or Utah. Since I don't know much else about the state, I started this thread.

I think it really depends on what you want out of the state. To me OKC doesn't have a good night life so if I was that age still I would hate it. But OKC does have some things I like such as minor league baseball (sometimes I like it more than MLB), little traffic, low pollution and the area I live in has low crime. I would love to see more outdoor activities be available but you can drive an hour and hit just about anything you would want outdoors.

I really don't think it is too different than a med size city in TX, except for all the dirty Sooner fans

"I think it really depends on what you want out of the state."

Here's what my priorities are:

-Good jobs
-Low cost of living
-Consistently Republican area voting history
-Good public schools
-Low crime rate
-Warm to temperate climate
-Good hunting/fishing nearby
-Access to periodic 80's metal concerts

Unfortunately "good jobs" is often at odds with many items on the rest of the list.

Might as well stay in TX with those priorities. It's not worth leaving friends and family for OK. The weather in South Carolina is probably not as bad as TX, plenty of fishing and golf, pretty conservative, pretty cheap, but I don't know about hunting.... but it's so far from TX. I don't know what Georgia's political makeup is like, but it is a nice state.

Colorado is pretty moderate politically, great weather (though maybe a little cold if you're a fan of the heat and humidity of TX), affordable (more expensive than TX though), jobs are pretty good, and a ton more to do and see than TX. Denver proper, which is 25-30% of the metro population, is pretty liberal though. It is not too big of a deal for me, and I am pretty conservative.

The climate really is all over the place here. Summers can be just as hot as I remember from Houston, winter brings at least one ice storm a year and the spring is tornado season which I will NEVER get used to.

This spring/summer/fall has been great though. Not a ton of rain like the year before when I swear it rained for 2 months straight, "mild" summer with only a few 100+ days and a great fall so far.

I haven't really noticed much change in the cost of living. We do have state income tax but that is evened out (pretty much) by the low property tax.

I agree with BQ... I wouldn't turn on the OKC news today though. Just wait until Christmas day.

I took a job out in Anadarko about a year ago. Seeing as how i didn't want to live in a section eight town i moved to norman and just commute. Noble is a nice community also.

Say what you want about oklahoma but just about everywhere you go here you find great people, and a typically more relaxed pace of life (with the exception of Tulsa). While i am not a huge fan of Norman, i can't complain because i hardly spend anytime there. there is much to do as far as fishing and camping out here.
