Wife might end up going to UCONN in Storrs. Any knowledge of the area. Good place, bad place? Should I avoid at all cost? Have no clue as I've never been in the area.

Born, raised, and graduated H.S. in Connecticut, then went to College Station where I spent the next 6 years of my life getting my B.S. and M.S.

Let me put it this way, I hated Texas and College Station during my Fish and Sophomore years...it was completely opposite of what I was used to. I finally came around by the way, and lived in Texas for quite a long time.

In a way, Storrs is similar to C.S., it is out in the middle of nowhere, by New England terms. That said, Boston is a little less than a two hour drive, NYC about three hours, and Hartford less than 30 minutes. It's beautiful country, and if you like the outdoors the scenery is great. But honestly, it is night and day different...and not that that is a bad thing.

I strongly suggest a trip up there to check it out. Good luck.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want to be close to shopping, dining and entertainment that's one area, if you want to be closer to UCONN and prefer a more rural setting that's somewhere else.

One big difference between CS and Storrs, is that they haven't expanded the roads to account for the traffic of a major university, so that's something to consider when you're considering her commute.

My wife went to grad school in Storrs. We live in Manchester, so it was about a 30 minute drive for her.

With that said, nothing in CT is very far. (Coming from TX I had to readjust myself to the scale of the map.)

Thanks for the advice. We are waiting to hear back if she got in at Houston before making a decision. If we end up going to Connecticut then I'll get back on here and ask some more questions.

That's funny. One can say that on just about every area in Connecticut.

FIFY. I miss my summers in CT (mom's family is in Wallingford). It was nothing to run up the coast to ME and back on a day trip.

Mind if I ask what program if she's considering a Houston school over UConn? I'm guessing funding offers will also come into play.

It is for a one year program in cytogenetic technology. UCONN has a certificate program. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston offers a second bachelors.

Funding is a concern and the fact that I could keep my job if it is Houston also is a positive.
