It's the Central Valley. It's hot as hades in the summer and can get below freezing in winter. You're an hour from Fresno, a half-hour from LeMoore NAS, and the major industry is agriculture.

You're 4 hours from LA or SF and 2 hours from Yosemite/Big Bear and the Sierras. Worst of all, any time someone asks where you live and you say California, they'll ask all kinds of questions about the beach and look at you quizzically when you try to explain that large swaths of California are not much different than the Texas Panhandle.
