Hey, I really was not sure where to else to look. Moved out here to Charleston about 6 weeks ago for work. Just looking to see if there are any other Aggies out in the part of South Carolina.

If you are around here, or know someone who is, let me know.

I believe the SC A&M Club is out of Columbia. Bit of a ways from you, but not horrid.

I'm in Athens, GA...about four hours from you. I know I've seen signs of Charleston Aggies around the boards somewhere, but I'm blanking on who.

Ok it's official now - I'm moving to Charleston. Any thoughts on the West Ashley (inside 526) area? Northbridge area to be exact.

Good neighborhood. Close to grocery stores, downtown Charleston, highway (526 & 26). Are you moving into an apartment or house? Have you thought about James Island?

House once our place in SA sells. I've looked into it, but a lot of the area seems to be in super low flood prone areas, and it's unclear what parts might fall into the wind and hail insurance zone. Do you know what parts in that area flooded in Hugo? I'll be commuting to the airport area and probably running back and forth to home / Mt Pleasant area more than anywhere else. The job offer is in and I've got about a month left in TX.

Most of the lowcountry is in a floodplain. However, make sure you consult a realtor before buying a house. They will know what locations are a floodplain and require flood insurance. (No, I'm not a realtor ) The location where you are looking to live (in West Ashley) is close to I26 and will be convenient to your work. I have a realty website that we used marked as a favorite on a different computer. I'll post it here soon

I'm also considering Mt Pleasant - looks like it'd be a straight shot up 526 every day. How's life in that area? I'd like to find a place at least a few years old, somewhere that isn't an exact copy of 3 other houses on the block. It'd be great to find > 2,500 sq ft for $250-$300K but that's still looking like foreclosure territory over there.
edit: or out in the sticks / McHouse housing boom-present development

Mt. Pleasant is a great place to live, too! It is the "now" place to live; lots of new businesses, restaurants, etc.
Here is the website that I used when looking for our house.

This might be too late, but I grew up in Mt. Pleasant and it was a great place to live! It's pretty convenient to most of the surrounding area. I know a few years ago real estate took off and they were asking for about 500k for the house down the street from us, but that was right before the crash and I don't think they sold it. We do happen to live in one of those "cookie cutter neighborhoods" though. I know there was a lot of development down around highway 41, I think the neighborhood is called rivertown, and then there was dunes west. Park West is a little further down 17, and I'm not sure what the going rate in those areas were, but it seemed like there was a lot of money there. We lived over off of long point road, which is right next to 526.

I'm still in the looking phase - actually in the area now though at Homewood Suites in Mt Pleasant. The site I'm using I think is the actual MLS - it's a long charlestontrident.com URL provided by a realtor. Also plan on checking out one of the larger churches in the area tomorrow. We were active at Oak Hills and CBC back in San Antonio.

I looked in a couple of neighborhoods in the Park West / Hwy 41 area with houses in the low $300s yesterday. They were 30-35 minutes away from work (~25 miles each way). Maybe it was just the neighborhoods I was looking at but it was a little cramped feeling for me, and a bunch of the houses seemed to have a lot of wood rot problems for being 5-8 years old. My dog would also be able to jump over the tiny fences some of the houses have if he saw something. Anyway I also hung around through rush hour and was amazed at all the traffic trying to head out on Hwy 17 and 41 - it was backed up solid to the IOP Connector.

Looked at a place in Snee Farms too. I liked the location since it wasn't as far out, but it would've needed $20-30K to fix the moisture damage in the walls and ceiling before you could even think about the cosmetics and back yard draining towards the house.

I'm going to have a look at a couple of older places in the area today that are more convenient to 526 since that'd the road I'd take to work. Also to West Ashley and James Island to try and explore that area a little better. If there's anything to do over there I haven't found it yet but some of the pictures of houses look nice online.

The big unknown is the wife; she's not here yet and will find a job when she graduates from UTSA in May. I'd like to keep it a reasonable commute to downtown in case that's where she works because if it's bad I'll hear about it every day from her.

The wife (Non-Ag / dislikes football) is here for househunting so I'm watching it from the hotel.

Is there an A&M group in the area?
