...that the media doesn't care much about the South. I've kept this in mind as I notice a lot of the coverage in the media really does cover the East and West coasts.

This Hurricane Irene is just one of many examples that I've noticed lately.. Sure, it's a hurricane. It's a devastating storm, I'm sure. What about all the people who had no clue about Ike when it ravaged the 4th largest city in the United States, Houston? Heck, most of the people that DID hear about Ike only cared about Galveston. The rest of the affected areas were given the Mississippi/Alabama treatment to Galveston's New Orleans treatment.

This is one reason why I'm tuning out the news for the most part.

Most of the press ignored the inland areas during this storm. Philadelphia got little coverage & now upstate NY & VT are being ignored, though they're going to be hit worse than Manhattan & coastal areas were.

The press lives in NY and DC, thus the reason they made a big deal of it.

And they really believe they are doing something worthwhile by standing out in it and reporting.
