I am going with my Father-in-law this Fall to go to the Notre Dame/Michigan Football game and we are staying in Chicago and plan on taking the train to South Bend but I had a few questions for anyone that has ever been to a Notre Dame game.

What's the best way to get tickets? The website says you have to enter a lottery just to try and get tickets and that alone costs $100 so I doubt that will work. We were thinking of using stubhub or razorgator. Anything better than that?

If we take the train, I believe it goes to the South Bend airport and then I assume we would take a taxi to the game? Are there taxis around afterwards to take us back to the airport? Or should we take a bus from Chicago or some other way? The train seemed the easiest and cheapest.

We are also going to a Cubs game but we have been to Chicago and know our way around enough to do well there but the Notre Dame part was what I had questions about. Any help is appreciated by anyone who knows.

And this is Aggie related because I am an Aggie that HATES Notre Dame and will be rooting for Michigan to win.

Is your father in law a ND grad? If so, the alumni associations have tickets and are your best bet, if not... be prepared to spend lots of money on stubhub, etc. since its a huge game, looks like they are already $315 a ticket. On another note, there really isn't a bad seat in the stadium, just old small benches. It is a lot like a cubs game in the sense that the only information you have about the game is the score, down, and time left. If your expectations are more than that, you'll be disappointed.

My brother is an ND alum so he always gets tickets through the lottery. They have a cool program where your donation can go to any department, not just the ad and it counts towards tickets. Been 6+ times and are trying to decide if we'll go to the michigan or byu game, depends on if he can get michigan tickets through the university.

The train will work. I've taken it before, not for a gameday though. It's slightly ghetto but on gameday i'd bet there are tons of fans going to the game too. Don't expect much from it other than a ride there and back. It does drop you off at the airport and getting taxi's would not be much of an issue and i dont think were that expensive.

If you are getting there just before the game, going to the game, then leaving, you're missing out on what makes Notre Dame so great. Campus is amazing, good tailgaiting. Lots of beautiful women are about the only thing the place lacks. It also amuses me how well dressed the place is all weekend. You can tell the alums from the fans real quick. Make sure you check out the grotto, dome, and touchdown jesus at least.

I got some intel for ya from a former ND player and friend of mine here at work.

Tickets - his initial reaction to getting tickets to the ND/Michigan game was just laughing. He said you can usually get away with scalping (and might be able to for this game) but since you're traveling you might as well get them on Stubhub (really the only way unless you have some connections). I've been to a game with him before but he said there is no bad seat anywhere in the bowl (I totally agree) and the upper half actually has more leg room. All the seats are on benches, FYI.

South Shore - I've taken this once but my friend lived on this thing while in college. Said you'd pick it up in Chicago at Millenium Station. You are correct in that it takes you to the South Bend Airport and you'd have to cab it back and forth (15 mins cab ride, expect inflated fares). The train will be about 3 hours, unless there has been an express train added in the last year or so - makes stops all along eastern Chicago and northwestern Indiana. When I took the South Shore once on the way to a Cubs game, we brought a cooler on board without any problems and had a few beers. I'd suggest doing that on the way towards the game!

From my own experience, I'd make sure to make a whole day of it - the campus is beautiful (if you haven't been there before). Walk around - go into the Basilica and all the other ND attractions.

I've been to Ann Arbor. Michigander's drink like fish! And all 106,000 in the "Big House" are absolutely polluted. True Story: 1976 - A&M up 3-0 at half, A&M loses the game 41-3 and we played Army Ranger getting the heck out of the place. Very tough crowd.

Just for the memories. Five years later, A&M offers Bo $3 million for 10 years.
