I just got a job in the DC area (Ft. Meade), and was wondering if anyone has ever lived there/has any advice on where to live. I've never spent much time there, and will be moving within the next couple of weeks. I plan on staying in an extended stay hotel until I find something suitable, but if anyone has some advice on where to start looking I'd really appreciate it.

I recommend looking in Columbia, MD. nice area and not too far from Ft. Meade. The beltway (495) is known for brutal traffic so if you can avoid it, you will be better off. Silver Spring is nice too. you'll have to jump on 495 for a bit but it may be worth it.

There are plenty of people who are at Meade not living in MD. Although, if you choose to live in DC, Capitol Hill is nice and gives you quick access to the Fwy and 295. Also, Arlington (Courthouse, Clarendon, Ballston) is good and will give you easy access to 50 and 395. You will quickly learn to be on the road early (probably by 6am) or you will hit traffic.

I would recommend making a few test drives to/from work once you have time to scope out some apartments.. the traffic is horrendous.

Thanks to those who gave some advice. After a week of looking around, I decided on a place in Sliver Spring. It's not too far from Ft. Meade, and I like being able to hop on a train to the middle of DC.
