Moving to Pittsburgh in a year for job. Actual office location is north of Pitt, just west of where 79 and 76 meet. Fiance is looking for a place in the burbs. Any recommendations of good places to live? Any places close to shopping centers/restaurants for a young couple?

i live right by there in mccandless/wexford. cranberry/mars right up the road are pretty cheap from what i hear and on the rise. same in wexford. plenty of stuff to do in the area without having to go downtown. if you have/plan on kids, NA is tops in the city and one of the best systems in the state. mcknight rd (19 on the maps) is full of bars and stuff. very pro city so hope you like the steelers and pens cause that's what the talk is about here when it comes to sports. btw. you'll learn to love the X (105.9) madden is pretty much you'll like him or hate him but fridays are awesome with his porn star interviews. there's a few other Ags here as i've seen A&M stickers and plates but haven't met up with them yet

Surf,

Are there good leasing options in that area ( mcandless/wexford) for apts or houses? How does it compare in price to other areas around there, like cranberry, Mars, Bradford woods , and Franklin park? I interned there in 2011 and stayed in cranberry. Yeah they obssess over all things Pitt. Can't imagine now that the pirates are actually worth a crap.

Thanks for the response btw. Happy to see Pa is not devoid of fellow Aggie brethren!

mccandless has a couple of apartments and ross has a few too. the nicest one out of those is in ross right next to the mall. i think it runs like 900 or a little higher. there's another really nice one next to the upmc on duncan but i think it's over priced. it's called the club at north hills or something like that. route 228 towards has a bunch of apts and stuff that have sprung up in the last year. there's a bunch of shops and stuff next to it as well and it's easy access to 79. can't tell you anything about home leasing

as far as other's who post here and live in the area - talon2d or something like that lives nearby. he can probably add to the apt locations in the area.

I live down in Washington, but I think that would be the opposite direction of where you would be looking for. There are some Aggies in the area and they do a happy hour fairly regularly. I usually dont get to go, but I am working and moving down to AR and with a little guy at the house now, it makes it tough. I can forward you the information for the main contacts for the Aggie event planner up here as I did get to join them for Muster and there is a pretty good group. Just shoot me a message

there's actually quite a large number of us up here. unfortunately I have no idea on anything north of brighton or thereabouts so am little to no help as far as housing options that way. most important though, if you're working up there, stay north of the river. you don't want to deal with bridges/tunnels if you don't have to.

Rental properties that are good are kinda hard to find. I ended up buying because the oilfield jacked up the rent prices. Even though most of us are in the oilfield around here. Cranberry is nice there are new properties off of 228. If you do buy stay in washington or butler county. Save on property taxes.

Howdy,

I just accepted a job in Pitt and will be moving to Moon PA soon. Any good living recommendations in that area?

Whats it like living in Pitt as a young single guy?
