Have an opportunity to easily leave my current home in Sacramento anytime in the next couple months and move to the nearby Tahoe ski areas, so I thought I might go ahead and do it while I'm young (will be 25 this month). I was actually already offered a part time ski instructor job at Northstar last weekend, and
I'm working on finding a waiter or bartender job now to make sure I'll have enough to cover my expenses. But my rent and overall cost of living should actually be going down by several hundred dollars a month compared to downtown Sac and with my free ski pass and equipment.

I've heard from someone else a few things to keep in mind and make sure of (like health insurance, getting hours in case snow is bad since I'm PT, etc), but figured since I always run into a million Texans on the slopes in Colorado and Cali I'd see if anyone else has some advice on making this transition for a season.

It's hard not to run into Texans when they are doing yard sales all over the place. I nearly got a concussion last Thanksgiving as two Texans were just camping out on the landing area of mid-sized jump.

Annoyed Coloradan is starting to get just as bad as Obnoxious Texan when it comes to ski resort personalities.

How about we just stick to skiing in our own states then? Might as well enjoy summer in our own states too; there's so much to do in Texas.

Good thing I don't live there anymore, so I don't fit that demographic.

Obnoxious Texan is not limited to Colorado. I once was OT in Phoenix, then I grew up.

I was not referring to you in my previous comment... was referring to all Coloradans and all Texans.

I was in your neck of the woods this weekend, as I visited my father-in-law in Stillwater.

I know, was just kidding.

We've totally high jacked this guys thread.

What kind of work are you looking to do at the resorts?

I work for Vail Resorts @ Vail. Personally I'd look into Heavenly instead of Northstar. I know a few of the mountain Op's guys at Heavenly.

Ski School is either love it or hate it. If you like dealing with people and love skiing it's a great job.

Vail Resorts offers pretty good benefits but the pay sucks, probably more so at Northstar. Be prepared to work long hours and have two jobs, especially as a first year ski instructor.

All that said. DO IT.

I moved to Vail on a whim 10 years ago, for a "few months." I'm not leaving the mountains, ever. If i ever leave here it will be for the Park City or Tahoe areas.

I've got a buddy from outside of COS, and all you ever hear is him ***** about Texan's.
I'll admit that the Texan's earn there stereotype for the most part.
But I'll second the "annoyed Coloradan" is getting out of hand. Especially from the 1 and done liftie from Michigan.
