I've got a job opportunity there but know absolutely nothing about the area. Is it an area (not necessarily downtown) that you would consider living?

Since this is a tad more serious than the GB, I'll explain my answer from over there.

I live in Athens. I usually describe it as the feel of Austin with the size of Bryan-College Station. Most people who've been in both places agree. We've been here for three years, and will be moving this summer (I'm graduating). I mean it when I say that the only other city in Georgia I'd willingly live is Savannah. It's a great little town, and I always love the chance for a trip down there.

There is are plenty of Savannah Area Aggies, but I don't see the club linked on the website. They did hold Muster last year (I remember getting a postcard about it, though it's 4 hours from here, and I'm a member of the ATL Aggie Club).

My husband ran the Rock 'n Roll Marathon in Savannah in 2011. That was the first year of the race there, and the route did run through some of the worst areas of town. Still, none of the runners felt unsafe, and on the contrary, they loved the support shown by the families in those neighborhoods.

It's a mixed town with a little bit of military influence and a little bit of college town. Then there's the tourism aspect. You'll run into lots of students at SCAD, and find that many businesses cater to that. When we were there for the race, it was probably our third trip, but first to hang out with locals. My husband met a lawyer at one of the investment firms that borders Forsyth Park. They introduced us to some of the local favorite places, and I knew then I could live there.

For entertainment, there's River Street and the City Market district among other venues. Can't say I've ever heard bad things about Chatham County Schools, but I don't have children. So, my remarks are based on faculty research and student teaching experiences.

super tourist town. River Street and fantastic restaurants. I like walking the 9 squares. And the place is haunted. Great video on youtube.

Anybody know anything about the botanical gardens there? I applied for a position as the Director. Looks pretty cool.
